How did I decide to become a Doula? Was it my love for supporting others in times when they need it most, my love for life itself, my love for parents, my love for babies? Or a combination of all these loves in my life? I wish I knew. Or actually it’s okay not to know as some things just are.
One thing I came to realize, after having had my own babies in different countries, is how important support is during those wonderful, exciting and sometimes overwhelming first few months. Practical, physical and emotional support, a shoulder to cry on, a laugh to be shared, help with our newborn and so much more. Living away from family and friends can be lonely and difficult at times and finding your resources and loving support in another culture than your own, sometimes takes time. And that’s okay too. But sometimes we just need a little extra help to bridge that time. And that’s really okay too.
