Dr. David Collister’s journey with the Canadian Nephrology Trials Network (CNTN) started during his PhD, where feedback from investigators and patient partners shaped his kidney research. Now a mentor and co-lead of CNTN’s Scientific Operations Committee, he explains how the network supports early-career researchers, strengthens proposals, and fosters meaningful connections with patients and clinicians.

Today is World Diabetes Day, a reminder that people living with diabetes face a higher risk of developing chronic kidney disease. Access to practical self-management support is essential for prevention and early care.

As part of our Self-Management project, a Can-SOLVE CKD initiative, we’re sharing a new impact story featuring My Kidneys My Health (mykidneysmyhealth.com), a patient-created website that helps people manage their kidney health in ways that fit their own lives and priorities.

From diet and symptom management to medication information, and emotional well-being, My Kidneys My Health supports people living with CKD, including those with diabetes-related kidney disease, to make informed decisions about their care.

Lifestyle changes can slow kidney disease progression, but many patients don’t have the practical, culturally relevant, and holistic information they need to effectively manage their health. This lack of support leads to worse health outcomes and deep inequities.

Today, we remember the Honourable Murray Sinclair — one year after his passing — and reflect on the incredible legacy he left behind.

As Premier Wab Kinew shared during the commemorative service, “Though we have lost our teacher, we have not lost his teachings.”

His guidance and courage continue to inspire our work at Can-SOLVE CKD as we advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, particularly those focused on health.

We invite you to revisit our story from 2024, “Honouring Murray Sinclair: A legacy of truth, reconciliation, and action,” and join us in continuing the important work of truth, learning, and change.

“You can live well with diabetes.”

Through iCARE, youth are using creativity and storytelling — like this TikTok video — to raise awareness about kidney health.
