Our club's goals are to promote and support positive mental health on campus, as well as eliminate stigma surrounding mental illnesses.

We work towards these goals through hosting a variety of events, which you can read more about on our website! The UBC Mental Health Awareness Club (or UBC MHAC) was established to promote mental health awareness throughout the UBC campus and the community. We aim to eliminate stigma towards mental illness and create an environment where students, staff and faculty can freely discuss mental health topics. Linktree: https://linktr.ee/UBCMHAC

With the school semester ending, study sessions become mandatory. So it is important you take breaks between them. As tempted as you are to doom scroll during breaks, it is detrimental and often causes us to lose track of time one scroll at a time. So swipe through the post to find out ways you can take a break— ones that do not consist of doom scrolling. Best of luck to everyone who has exams!!

The UBC Mental Health Awareness Club (or UBC MHAC) is UBC’s largest mental health promotion club. Our goals are to promote and support positive mental health and to eliminate stigma towards mental illnesses. We work towards these goals by hosting a variety of events, and writing posts on our blog for anyone who may be interested in different perspectives on mental health!
Our Events
We host three main series of events throughout the school year: 1) Project Paws, 2) Speaker Series, and 3) ROAR. Through Project Paws, we bring trained therapy dogs directly to the UBC campus to help students de-stress, 10 to 12 times per school year. Besides Project Paws, our Events team also plans additional events to help likeminded students connect and relax, such as through Crafts Days and Open-mic events at the Nest.
The Speaker Series of events is our platform for facilitating open, safe, and confidential conversations between professionals and students. In these events, we invite panel speakers ranging from UBC’s own professors to those with lived experience, to share their knowledge with attendees in a conversational-style discussion. Every event focuses on a different mental health-related topic, ranging from PTSD to bipolar disorder. As topics may be sensitive, a member of our team is present at all times to ensure safe and positive discussion. We aim to host one Speaker Series per month of the school year. Disclaimer: MHAC members are not professionals and we encourage you to seek professional help as needed.
Last but not least, ROAR is our main outreach, promotional, and only fundraising event of the year, held in collaboration with the Thunderbird Athletes’ Council. The goal is to bring the UBC community together to raise awareness for and support positive mental health, as well as promote and raise funds for both MHAC and the Mood Disorders Society of Canada.
