September 30 is National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Today we take time to remember and honour the survivors of Indian residential schools and those who were lost. We recognize the ongoing harms effecting Indigenous families today. We celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of the many different Nations and support the rebuilding and flourishing of cultural practices that were stolen.

We’re grateful for the Huckleberry Team and the culturally relevant care and support they give to Indigenous families.

Lots of discussion this week about Tylenol and Autism. This post from explains a few key things about understanding research.

There is no conclusive evidence that Tylenol causes autism.

Tylenol is still considered the safest pain reliever and fever reducer in pregnancy. The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canadian have issued a recent statement on this.

As midwives we’ve been noticing that a lot of families are running into problems when using the Philips Avent bottles. There seems to be something about the design of these bottles/nipples that can make it very hard for some babies to draw the milk out of the bottle, leading to feeds taking way longer than the 15-20min we would expect when using the paced feeding technique. If you are using these bottles and are experiencing very lengthy feeds that tire your baby (and you!) out, consider trying a different bottle.

-there are different tips and tricks online to help troubleshoot this problem, so give them a try if you want, but if you can’t solve the problem easily, we recommend switching brands

(If these bottles work for your baby, we’re happy to hear that!)
