In Varsity, we use these moments to build coordination, awareness, and confidence — not just break a sweat.

For teens (13–17), this program is about learning how to train with purpose:

Every athlete is guided, corrected, and progressed based on where they’re at.

Spirit of the Open 💛

Every year, we recognize one person who truly embodies what the Open—and our community—is all about.

Our most prestigious award, 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻, is nominated by Open participants. It goes to the person who supported, inspired, and lifted others up the most.

This year, that person is 𝗛𝗛𝗛.

And in a first for Empower… 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗼-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿.

From the moment she walked through the doors—with posters, pictures, and scorecards in hand—you could feel it. The energy. The excitement. The care.

She didn’t just participate in the Open—she built it.

Organizing behind the scenes. Judging. Cheering. Dressing up. Creating spaces for connection. Making sure everyone felt included.

She is the reason this year’s Open was what it was: inclusive, fun, and unforgettable.

HHH, you didn’t just represent the spirit of the Open—you elevated it (again).

We are so grateful for the time, heart, and energy you gave to this community.

Official Empower welcome to Coach Steve 🎉

Coach Steve is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Strength Coach.
Coach Steve is a NASM-certified personal trainer and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt at Empower Every Body Fitness in Vancouver, specializing in strength development, youth training, and combat sport performance.

He is currently completing his Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia, combining academic knowledge with real-world coaching experience to deliver safe, effective, and structured training.

Coach Steve works with both youth and adults, helping them build confidence, improve movement, and develop long-term strength. His coaching style focuses on clear progression and creating a supportive environment where clients can grow without feeling overwhelmed.

Outside of Empower, Coach Steve continues to train and coach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, helping students develop discipline, resilience, and confidence through the sport.

If WOD Father could start over… he wouldn’t start with a barbell.

In this week’s Weekly Wisdom – Episode 37, he shares what he’d do differently—and why most people jump too quickly into loaded movements before building the foundation.

Instead, he’d focus on 4 simple (but not easy) pillars:
• Squat holds
• Hanging
• Get-ups
• Crawling

These movements build the strength, mobility, and awareness needed for long-term progress—and fewer injuries along the way.

It’s not the most exciting path. But it’s the one that works.
