What are these?
These are one of the 9 classical needles in acupuncture. Theses needles are used to stroke, touch and press on the body. In Japan they are known as a teishin. More advanced practitoners will use them to directly stimulate and manipulate the qi in the meridian. Notice in the photo that all the teishins are note the same. Some of the teishin are sterling silver while others are gold plated. Copper and brass are common metals as well. Titanium and gold teishins are far less common.
What we call acupuncture is an acusystem. The acupuncture points can be stimulated by a variety of methods:
1/ pressure- acupressure, shiatsu massage and ontake
2/light- lasers
3/electricity- electrical acupuncture
4/heat-moxibustion
5/ magnets
6/Gold, silver and other metals- The metals can be placed on the body or tools are made of different metals. Refer to the picture below.
7/frequency tapping- a practioner may use Manaka's hammer or Da-shin techniques to tap on the body
8/frequency sound- using tuning forks of different frequencies at points on the body
9/light frequency- utlizing a laser and adjusting the frequency at different points on the ear or body
10/herbs-the placement of herbs on acupuncture points
11/ needle- insertion of a needle. The more classical acupuncture
There are many types and styles of acupuncture each working with one or more of the above methods of stimulation. Remember acupuncture is a system, it is the body's response which is paramount. Find a method and a practioner with whom you are comfortable.
