CCHPBC is seeking feedback from members of the public, registrants (licensees), and health partners on the draft bylaws under the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA).

A parallel consultation process will seek consultation specifically with the nominees of Indigenous governing bodies in British Columbia; however, all persons wishing to do so, including Indigenous persons, are invited to provide feedback via the current process.

The current Health Professions Act (HPA) is to be replaced by the new Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) that received Royal Assent in 2022 and is expected to be brought into force in 2025.

The changes brought by the HPOA seek to support the following goals across the healthcare regulatory landscape:

- Addressing racism and discrimination in health care, in particular anti-Indigenous racism and discrimination

- Greater transparency by health professional regulators in carrying out regulatory activities and processes

- Improved effectiveness, efficiency, and consistency of regulatory bodies by having fewer and better-resourced regulators (i.e., amalgamation) and the sharing of resources and support across regulators

Additionally, the HPOA will create a change in some areas of regulatory language.
