We're raising the bars this year at Passions. This November 26th, we're getting into the spirit (and wine and beer) of the season by hosting four of the city's hottest bars, one award-topping distillery and a beloved winery. A ticket to Passions gets you full, open access to:

Last in alphabetical order (but certainly not in our hearts), we have our final roundup of Passions Gala restaurants --->

Why I write these restaurant descriptions *right before lunch*, I don't know. Our immense gratitude to:

Provence Vancouver - evoking the seafood-forward, exquisite charm of a Southern France bistro, this restaurant dresses its daily catches in the summery, sun-soaked flavours of the Mediterranean.

Selene Aegean Bistro - when this Aegean bistro opened its doors in my neighbourhood last year, I was first in line. Grilled branzino, mussels swimming in spicy butter, tahini-and-mint-spiked cukes... dishes fit for the (Greek) gods.

Sushi Hil - Vancouver often gets tapped as a *the* sushi destination outside Japan, a distinction we owe in no small part to this restaurant, which serves masterfully prepared morsels of top-tier seafood and rice (look at the drape on that tuna!)

Wildlight Kitchen + Bar - this Michelin-recommended restaurant is pure West Coast cookery, taking the best ideas from various world cuisines and firing them through the prism of our woods and waters. The results are exciting and delicious.

Zoomak Korean Tavern - Modern Korean at its finest: spicy, rich, punchy, sticky, unapologetic and toeing an impressive line between elegance and all-out indulgence. Grab a soju here and "짠 Jjan" to the experience!

Fiorino, Italian Street Food - bringing the swagger and soul of a tucked away Florentine focacceria, this spot delivers the very best of the Old Country: comforting Schiacciata sandos and pastas mantecatura'd to perfection, all leveraging the best ingredients the Boot has to offer.

iDen & Quanjude Beijing Duck House, Vancouver - as mentioned in our VIP posts, this Michelin-starred restaurant serves the best duck this side of Beijing. After the VIP hour wraps, iDen is sticking around for the whole evening--doling out thin crepes of that good stuff.

L'ABATTOIR - French technique meets West Coast ingredients and sensibilities to create something steeped in European elegance but charged by Vancouver innovation: the food is technically precise, intellectual and oh so tasty.

Lila - serving Modern Indian cuisine against a cozy, relaxed backdrop of running vines and lush hanging plants, Lila is a nod to the spirit of the subcontinent: vibrant flavours, easy vibes, and a menu that makes you want to return again and again.

Melo Patisserie - close your eyes and imagine yourself at a corner café in a bustling Paris arrondissement - that's the atmosphere at Melo, which serves up refined pastries, cakes and bistro staples in a gorgeous French-inspired setting.

First up on our restaurant spotlight ---> 6 local legends that serve some of the most exciting food this side of the Rockies.

The Acorn - spinning peak seasonal and local ingredients into a stellar vegetarian menu, this sustainably focused favourite marries organic farming and bold experimentation.

Anh and Chi - the buzzy Bib Gourmand institution serving gorgeous Vietnamese classics (including this writer's favourite bánh xèo) with contemporary panache, this place makes you fall in love with Vietnamese cuisine all over again.

Bravo Vancouver - Vancouver Mag's Best New Restaurant last year, this Michelin recommended newcomer is a celebration of our coastline with punchy flavours and painterly plating.

Cantina Norte - Leveraging the breadth and depth of the Mexican kitchen, this North Van spot turns out beautiful, colourful, deeply satisfying interpretations of south-of-the-border classics.

Chambar Restaurant - the self styled "civilized debauchery" at this Beatty Street beauty is elevated French cookery with a warm soul and playful approach to flavour combos.

F***y Bay Oysters - this ultra-popular BC shellfish spot is the perfect encapsulation of "tide to table", serving up cooked and raw preparations that showcase how lucky we are to live on the Best Coast.

We're thrilled to bring you the lineup for this year's Passions Gala VIP ticket-holders. A power hour of Michelin-Starred, locally beloved and hotly anticipated Vancouver restaurants, the VIP portion promises to kick off *the* food event of the winter in fine fashion.

And it's all thanks to these amazing folks. Our compliments to the chefs:

Chef Gus Stieffenhofer-Brandson of the buzzy, elegant, Michelin-starred Published on Main, a love letter to the foraged bounties of our sliver of paradise here in BC. (editors note: I ate here recently, and the Fraser Valley duck made me do a literal backflip, it was so good)

Chef Andrea Carlson of Burdock and Co., a Michelin-starred farm-to-table masterclass that joyfully mashes rustic and high-end sensibilities. This is food for thought *and* soul--a remarkable mainstay on Main St.

Chef Allen Ren of Michelin-starred iDen & Quan Ju De Beijing Duck House, serving the city's best Beijing Duck. If you know Beijing duck, you know it can be a transformative experience, a study in contrasts: shatteringly crispy skin, succulent meat; richness and lightness; fire and fowl. Iden serves the platonic ideal of the capital's signature dish.

And Chef Chanthy Yen of the hotly anticipated Touk, opening this winter. I obviously haven't had the pleasure at eating at Touk yet, but I have no doubt that the Top Chef Canada winner will deliver with his take on elevated Cambodian cuisine.

It’s World Food Day. Currently, there’s a room full of participants enjoying a nutritious breakfast at the Centre—a first and continual step in the healing process. Over the happy clinks of cutlery on plates, we can still reflect on the fact that not everyone is afforded enough quality nutrition. Not globally. Not here in Canada. Not here in Vancouver... Food is a human right, a non-negotiable when it comes to harm reduction. No one feels whole on an empty stomach!
