The Dr. Peter Centre provides support for HIV/AIDS care in Metro Vancouver. We do not rehabilitate people to join society. We stand with people to join humanity

At the Dr. Peter Centre we work with individuals who are at the intersection of mental illness, substance use, poverty, HIV and chaotic life.

There’s some kind of magic that descends every September on the Dr. Peter Centre. We could call it luck, but it’s not that. Last night, it was the immense generosity of a room of 150 Vancouverites all feeling the same thing: love.

Beyond proud (and a little misty eyed) to announce that this year’s Life Commitment gala raised nearly $1 million! We can’t begin to quantify how many meals and therapeutic activities that permits. We can’t begin to imagine the impact that will have on the lives of so many of our beautiful participants. But we’ll get to see it. And to those who attended last night, we say a heartfelt thank you for that.

We’re excited to be a community partner with VQFF this year for their closing presentation: the film “Four Mothers”!

From director Darren Thornton, the film follows a gay Irish novelist whose “friends jet off on a Pride holiday, leaving him to care for their eccentric, strong-willed mothers for the weekend.”

Sounds like a romp, right? Catch the screening this Saturday at 7. (In fact, catch as many VQFF as you can; the city thrives on these cultural spotlights!)

Thank you to the one and only .clarkes for gifting us this photograph he took of Dr. Peter Jepson Young. In pain and going blind at that stage, Peter nevertheless strikes a defiant pose—it’s an upright, resilient kind of energy we still aim to channel at the Centre.

It might be the height of summer, but we're looking forward to fall. This year marks the 16th anniversary of our Life Commitment Gala: a celebration of community involvement, philanthropy and support for our society's most marginalized. Join us this September 20th at a private Southlands residence for an evening of fine food and drinks, elegant jewel tones, a lively live auction and more.

This year's Life Commitment Gala is generously presented by RBC. All funds raised go to Dr. Peter Centre's essential Day Health program.

Thank you to all the guests, donors, vendors and silent auction participants for making this year's Pride Cocktail Kickoff the most successful to date. Raising the bar on generosity, this 14th annual Kickoff raised over $150,000 that goes directly toward food, beds, medication and therapies for those who need it most.
