Dr. Peter Centre

Dr. Peter Centre The Dr. Peter Centre provides support for HIV/AIDS care in Metro Vancouver. We do not rehabilitate people to join society. We stand with people to join humanity

At the Dr. Peter Centre we work with individuals who are at the intersection of mental illness, substance use, poverty, HIV and chaotic life.

Here in Canada, it's National Nursing Week. It seems fitting that the observance falls in mid-May, when spring flowers are out in full force and everything feels alive. Nurses have that same power: to help things grow, to nurture life, to part the gray clouds in a person's life and makes things look sunny again.

At the Dr. Peter Centre, the leadership of our nurses—whether at the bedside, in clinical planning, or in quiet moments of crisis intervention—is what makes our entire model possible. They don't just provide care; they lead the way in showing what healthcare should look like.

This should be a photo of someone here, enjoying the May sunshine. But it is only a dress.
A life, taken.

Today, we remember the Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who should still be here. We refuse to let their absence become silence, become normalized. reminds us that we require sustained action: initiatives resourced by settlers, led by Indigenous communities, that confront the conditions that led to this loss--and ensure it cannot continue.

This National Volunteer Week, we're reflecting on the many wonderful faces who have donated their time at the Centre. From meal service, to dog therapy, to support at all of our major events—we are so grateful for their presence and support. Whether its their first or hundredth visit, every volunteer makes an impact.

To our volunteers: Thank you for your helping hands, your ongoing dedication, and your unending care. We couldn't do it without you!

If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering at the DPC, reach out to foundation@drpeter.org.

The Life Commitment Gala returns on September 19th for its 17th year, continuing a powerful tradition of community, compassion, and impactful giving. We are proud to welcome RBC Wealth Management PH&N Investment Counsel as our title sponsor.

For nearly two decades, this event has played a vital role in sustaining the Dr. Peter Centre’s work here in Vancouver, supporting individuals facing some of the most complex health and social challenges in our community. Every dollar raised stays local and directly funds the Centre’s therapeutic programs and services that stabilize health, build trust, and reconnect people to care.

Join us at a private Southlands residence for an evening of fine food and drinks, entertainment, a lively live auction, and meaningful connections.

By being part of this evening, you are directly supporting care, dignity, and connection for people in our own community.

We want to say a big THANK YOU to the employees at Nicola Wealth! Their generous clothing donations are going to offer warmth and bring joy to many of our participants. Kasota, our in-house Therapy Dog, and Melissa, our Recreation Therapist, were equally excited to unpack those donations and add them to Pete's Closet.

We're one month away from the 2026 Vancouver Sun Run. We're proud to be an official charity partner and can't wait to see you at the start line on April 19th!

When you lace up, fundraise or donate, you help ensure that vital services — like housing support, meals, counselling, and community connections — remain available to those who need them most.

You can make an impact by donating directly on our page, by volunteering, or by joining one of our teams.
