Oshun originates with the West African Yoruba culture which dates back to at least 500 BCE. While most West Africans today practice Christianity or Islam, some communities have held onto the old ways – many of which are matriarchal – or are reclaiming them now.
If you feel drawn to stories like Oshun’s — tales of beauty, power, sweetness, protection, and feminine strength — you can explore her full retelling in my new book, the second in my goddess series: "Witch, Healer, Priestess, Outcast: Divine Feminine Archetypes for Modern Life".
This book dives into goddesses and mythic figures from around the world, offering original retellings, reflections, and guided practices to help you connect their wisdom to your own life.
