A gentle reminder! Drink more water! I found myself not drinking water because I didn’t want to drink all the chemicals that come with tap water. Sure you can argue you may have the best water around but if it’s from your tap it’s guaranteed to be filled with chemicals, trace metals and all those nasties that get built up in those pipes over the years. After years of time and research I ended up getting the best machine on the market and never think twice about it. I love my water!

Let’s talk about the pH of water and how it affects your health. Mentioning pH catapults most of you back to high school chemistry causing a glazed look and some confusion. But today, we’ll break this down and explain why the pH of water is so important to your health. Let’s start with the definition of pH: the measurement of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution; also the measurement of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. The lower end of the scale represents acidic water and the higher end of the scale represents alkaline water.

By now you’ve encountered bottled water that has the pH advertised right on the label and wondered whether it was just clever marketing or actually important. Well, it is important. The body maintains a normal blood pH of anywhere from 7.35 to 7.45. Anything that fluctuates outside of the normal range is indicative of illness. If the pH of the blood is below 7.35, acidosis occurs and inversely, anything above 7.45 indicates alkalosis. These are serious conditions occurring as a result of dysfunction in either the lungs or the kidneys, being respiratory or metabolic.

Yay! It’s time to pick those leafy greens that survived the cold winter and have started producing new fresh leaves. Right now we have a tone of parsley, kale and even some spinach that survived (with a container lid) these are great in a juice together with some added lemon juice, ginger, apple and some 9.5 ionized water to pump up the flavour. Yep that’s right adding 9.5 not only gives you antioxidant rich water but it also boosts the flavour punch.

Juice ingredients:
2 cups 9.5pH water
Handful of parsley
3 -4 medium kale leaves
1/2 an apple
1 inch of ginger finely chopped
Small handful of spinach
Squeeze of lemon

Mix on high drink up and enjoy! 💙

Watering with different pH levels can greatly impact the health of your plants, different types of plants thrive in different conditions. For example some types of cacti thrive in an acidic environment (a pH level between 5 and 7) and each type of cacti has a desirable pH range.

Most cacti grow best with a pH range of 5 to 6.5. Over the last 2 years we have been watering our various cacti with a pH of 6 and have been seeing great results.

For cacti and succulents, watering with alkaline water (a pH of greater than 7) will slowly turn the soil alkaline and over time will affect the growth of the plant. Alkaline water is best used on plants that love alkaline conditions.
