This week Scott led another AMSMC Sport Mentorship Evening focusing on wrist and hand taping techniques for athletes. From supporting thumb sprains — common in contact and ball sports like football and volleyball — to stabilizing fingers for climbers, we explored tape applications that help protect joints, limit excessive movement, and support play when athletes need it most.

We’ve added VALD ForceFrame and VALD DynaMo to the clinic — alongside the VALD ForceDecks we already use.
That means even more precise testing of:
✔️ Strength
✔️ Power
✔️ Range of motion
✔️ Side-to-side asymmetries

These tools give us objective data, so your training and rehab programs can be tailored specifically to your body and goals. We can also track your progress over time in detail, making it easier to see improvements and know exactly when you’re ready to level up or return to sport.

Less guessing. More data. Better results. 📈

Whether you’re recovering from an injury or looking to enhance performance, this technology helps move you closer to your goals. Ask your clinician about adding VALD testing to your next session!

✨ Meet Our New Kinesiologist: Narumi! ✨

We’re excited to welcome Narumi, who will be taking over from Aliana (headed back to school!), and providing kinesiology services at our Yaletown clinic! She graduated from Camosun College in 2024 with a Bachelor of Athletic & Exercise Therapy and is a Registered Kinesiologist, Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C)), Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP), and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer.

At the clinic, Narumi focuses on providing personal training and active rehabilitation to help clients restore optimal function, health, and quality of life through supervised tailored exercise programs.

In addition to her kinesiology role, Narumi has covered a variety of sports as an Athletic Therapist including rugby, soccer, tennis, basketball, ice hockey, and volleyball, and currently works with the North Shore Warriors Hockey Academy.

When she’s not in the clinic or on the sidelines, Narumi stays active with long-distance running (10K & half marathons), lifting, cycling, hiking, volleyball, and soccer.

In this reel, UBC PhD researcher and physiotherapist Jem Arnold is testing for a condition many cyclists don’t even know exists: a blood-flow limitation in the iliac arteries (FLIA). It’s rare, but even strong, fit endurance athletes can be affected. This vascular issue can steal power and cause pain or heaviness in the legs when you push hard — yet often goes unnoticed or is mistaken for a muscle or overuse injury.

Jem has worked internationally with cyclists, triathletes, and runners with sport-related vascular conditions, and has helped develop screening tests and treatment guidelines for athletes with blood-flow limitations in the iliac arteries. We’re excited to bring Jem’s research into clinical practice.

For more information, call or email our Yaletown clinic at yaletown@allanmcgavinphysio.com / 604-642-6761, or contact jem.arnold@ubc.ca.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Welcome Brittany to the team! 👋

We’re excited to introduce our first Athletic Therapist (AT) at the clinic.

Brittany (she/her) is currently the Head AT with the North Shore Warriors Hockey teams 🏒 and will also be offering in-clinic rehab and treatment here in North Van.

What does an Athletic Therapist do?
They specialize in:
-Immediate on-field care during practices and games
-Rehab and treatment of injuries using exercise-based rehab, manual therapy, and therapeutic modalities

Brittany holds a Bachelor of Science degrees in Athletic Training and Exercise Science at Lindenwood University in Missouri and a Master of Science in Human Physiology. She brings experience working with collegiate rugby, soccer, softball and football athletes, as well as supporting workplace injury prevention and return-to-work programming.

Plus — she’s a former collegiate soccer player herself. ⚽️

Book with Brittany at our North Shore Winter Club clinic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Welcome Jenna to the team! 👋🏃‍♀️

We’re excited to introduce Jenna (she/her) — a graduate of the Master of Physical Therapy / PhD program at Western University, where her research focused on inflammation in knee osteoarthritis.

Jenna grew up playing hockey (as a goalie) and rugby, until a significant leg injury sidelined her from competitive sport. She later found running as a source of stress relief and went on to compete on the Varsity Cross-Country and Track & Field teams at Western.

This experience sparked her passion for female athlete health throughout the lifespan and endurance athletes. Her clinical and research focus includes:
-Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs)
-Pelvic floor health
-Postpartum return to sport
-Running related injuries
-Knee injuries and osteoarthritis

Jenna is currently a postdoctoral fellow at UBC, where she continues to study knee injuries in females by combining her expertise in osteoarthritis and female athlete health.

Clinically, she completed a sport physiotherapy + postdoctoral fellowship at Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, where she worked as the primary physiotherapist for varsity endurance teams (cross country, track & field, rowing, swimming, and cheerleading). She also practices pelvic floor physiotherapy and enjoys working with individuals of all backgrounds and activity levels.

Outside the clinic (and the lab!), you can find Jenna training and competing in national-level cross country, track & field, and road races, or out cycling and hiking.

Here Jenna demonstrates one of her favourite exercises for knee strength and control: the Elevated Step Down.

Book with Jenna at our Chan Gunn clinic!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
