Last night was a success! Our Haunted Halloween was incredible, we treated about 50 kids and made one cry. (😭)
My shop is a disaster zone. I cleaned a bit, but decided to close up for a while and hand out our left overs downtown! We added hand warmers to each bag.

I’ve got a bunch of decorations and a tiny bit of candy.

A community four legged relative will pass to doggy heaven today. My heart is sad. It’s been a heavy time for many I’ve been noticing. I thought I would share a virtual smudge for everyone that is having a hard time in this life right now. Reach out to friends, family, and community if you need supports.

Please join us on Friday for our first ever Haunted House!
1312 Kingsway 👻👻
There was a bit of interest so I decided to just go for it! It’s my first time doing this, im nervous, I hope people come through! So far, we have volunteers, donated candy and decorations. If you have something you think we could use, please DM me.
I’ll be asking the neighbouring businesses if they want to join the fun, the shop next to us is already on board! I’m so jazzed about this, Halloween is the best!

This event isn’t just for the littles, it is also the start of our annual warm gear drive. I’ll be accepting socks, gloves, toques and warm jackets for the DTES. You can bring any new or lightly used items to the shop Friday or any day I’m open afterwards.

Sisters Sage will be closed til Monday.
I’ve had to put the social media away since last night. But opening it today has been bittersweet.
Thank you to the hundreds of messages sending love and check ins. My body is very sore and it’s hard to move around. Advils, devils club, hot baths, and dog smooches for me today.
I also want thank the dozen or so people who privately shared their horrifying stories about that man with me. Some of them took courage to share. One person even wrote me from a burner account because they are so afraid that this man will come for them. I don’t blame them.
An investigation has been opened. Several witness have come forward. And I’ve contacted their employment. Accountability is needed. Men cannot go around be violent and aggressive and have zero accountability, he cannot continue this terror on our community.
Also, any bs activity and comments will be blocked and deleted. As per usual. We are not tolerating asininity over here today.

Content Warning: Violence, harassment, racism

I hate to have to share this, but I feel a responsibility to let the community know about what happened today in the Downtown Eastside.

The videos speak for themselves.
This man, Robert McCormick, who appears to be employed by the Community Social Services Employers’ Association of BC (CSSEA), violently attacked us outside a restaurant on Pender Street.

He has been following and harassing my partner Malcolm for years. Today was the first time I encountered him. He shoved me several times, and attacked our friend Herb, who had to receive staples in his scalp after being struck in the head.

A police file has been opened. We have been told that this is not the first

time people have had to report him.

Both Herb and I are First Nations community activists, and I am the owner of Sisters Sage, an Indigenous company built around wellness and empowerment. Mr. McCormick would have known who we are. The racism behind his actions feels undeniable.

I am sore, shaken, and scared. I will be seeing a doctor tomorrow because my back is seized and I can barely move. The physical and emotional toll are setting in, and I am struggling to process what happened.

I am sharing this because the community deserves to be aware and to stay safe. Violence against Indigenous people is not new, but it should never be normalized.

Sisters Sage is Lynn and Melissa, two sisters from the Gitxaala, Nisgaa, and Metis Nations. Together we use our traditional knowledge and ingredients to create beautiful self care and wellness products. All of our handmade soaps are cold-processed and cured at least 6 weeks, Vegan, and palm oil free. Our Smokeless Smudge Spray was created as a convenient “refresher” as we were not allowed to burn our medicines in our basement suite. A popular item! The salves we created with our elders in mind, who would use these sacred ingredients for many ailments. Devils Club is near and dear to us!

Sisters Sage was started with a great need to change our life directions. Melissa was struggling with being pregnant and homeless; unable to find a home during the housing crisis, she felt a desperate need to start something that would be able to support her in all aspects of life. Lynn felt a desperate need to leave her toxic work environment and create something that encouraged her growth culturally, mentally, emotionally, and financially.

After a year of hard work, education, babies, moves, product testing, tears, fights, love, and successes.....Sisters Sage is so proud of how far we have come in our entrepreneur endeavors. To many years more!
