Hi Sage Fam!
Please reach out to me ASAP if you can offer free basic tax services for these two First Nations youth.
They are desperately seeking accommodations NOW. They are new to the big city and I’m terrified Vancouver will swallow them up as it has with so many of us.
*I know about the Friendship Centres tax clinic but it’s Wednesday and we need sooner if possible.
Any help appreciated.

O.M.C.
I’m beaming!
Thank you for recognizing all of the hard work I put in to Sisters Sage. It has been a labour of love.
First Nations people were violently excluded from participating in our previously thriving economies with the inception of the Indian Act of 1876 and even prior. Our ancestors fought with their lives to get us here and I will continue this fight for the next generations.
There is still a lot of work needed to actualize our financial sovereignties and independences. And this work involves every Canadian.
Truth and Reconciliation is now.

This day is harsh triggering for me so I avoided creating a post. Thank you for your labour of love here.
Posted • Today is international overdose awareness day. Since this was named a public health emergency in 2016 over 50,000 Canadians have died. In BC over 17,000 people have died from the toxic drug supply. This is the leading cause of death in BC, accounting for more deaths than homicides, suicides, motor vehicle incidents, drownings and fire-related deaths combined.
Divisive politicians would have you believe that these deaths are caused by the safe supply and free drugs. Nothing could be further from the truth, these deaths are as a result of a toxic drug supply that has become more and more toxic because of failed prohibition policy. The solution is a regulated supply. This might sound like a radical idea to some, but remember when alcohol was illegal, people made moonshine and visited speakeasies. People didn’t stop drinking during prohibition. In fact, some people went blind or suffered other ailments accessing the unregulated supply.
Regulating the supply is not a radical idea, it’s one supported by public health officials and drug policy analysts. That said, it’s one that lacks political will. Politicians would rather let people die than risk losing votes.
So what can we do? If you are looking to take action, start here.
1. Donate to DULF’s legal defense fund. Links in my bio. No amount is too small.
2. Learn how to reverse an overdose. Naloxone is free and you can pick up a kit at pharmacies in BC. This is first aid. Visit towardtheheart.com to learn how to save a life.
3. Let your MP and MLA that you support evidenced based solutions for this crisis, not fear mongering and devisive politics.
The photos above are from an action on Friday led by and . We set up at skytrain stations around metro Vancouver and taught over 250 people how to respond to an OD as well as distributed kits. It was heartwarming to see how many people wanted to learn.

Respect to Dakota for this labour.
Posted • This is serious. Help us find Samuel Bird.

According to Indigenous Services Canada + Canadamissing.ca, there are an estimate of 7,000 Indigenous children + youth who go missing every year.

Like Samuel Bird, a fourteen year-old we are currently searching for along the North Saskatchewan River area.

Search & Rescue efforts were never activated to help bring Samuel home. As with most missing-child cases involving Indigenous youth, it’s up to us to find our young people.

Please help us find Samuel Bird. If you’re able to give, the link for financial donations and how to get involved are on the last slide of this post.

And if you join our mailing list, we’ll send you a letter template to send to your MLA/MP advocating for more response teams and a dedicated missing- child alert system (similar to Amber Alerts) that include Indigenous children who are currently falling between the gaps of Canada’s colonial government.

Comment a 🦅 below and let us know if you’ve done both and we’ll enter you in to win a Decolonial Clothing giftcard as a token of our appreciation for your support of our search efforts!

About us

Sisters Sage is Lynn and Melissa, two sisters from the Gitxaala, Nisgaa, and Metis Nations. Together we use our traditional knowledge and ingredients to create beautiful self care and wellness products. All of our handmade soaps are cold-processed and cured at least 6 weeks, Vegan, and palm oil free. Our Smokeless Smudge Spray was created as a convenient “refresher” as we were not allowed to burn our medicines in our basement suite. A popular item! The salves we created with our elders in mind, who would use these sacred ingredients for many ailments. Devils Club is near and dear to us!

Sisters Sage was started with a great need to change our life directions. Melissa was struggling with being pregnant and homeless; unable to find a home during the housing crisis, she felt a desperate need to start something that would be able to support her in all aspects of life. Lynn felt a desperate need to leave her toxic work environment and create something that encouraged her growth culturally, mentally, emotionally, and financially.

After a year of hard work, education, babies, moves, product testing, tears, fights, love, and successes.....Sisters Sage is so proud of how far we have come in our entrepreneur endeavors. To many years more!
