Mental Health Week is here, and CMHA National’s theme is 'stronger connection, better mental health.' They shared that ‘having good social support has been found to lead to positive health outcomes, a sense of purpose, belonging, security, and self-worth.’

Social connection can take many forms, from a greeting with a neighbour or colleague to an outing with friends or a phone call. Connectedness happens in many ways, and it can be different for everyone.

At REACH, connections happen every day within our cultural groups. Participants learn new skills together and meet weekly to share traditions and strengthen their bonds and well-being.

If you would like to learn more about our diverse groups, head to https://www.reachcentre.bc.ca/mfc

We hope you find meaningful social connection this Mental Health Week💛

Part of the reason we can offer our community health and outreach events is because of the incredible volunteers at REACH 🥰 We celebrated these 'busy bees' for their continued support and contributions to pollinating our public health and cultural health programs. Some of the volunteers have been with REACH for as long as 30 years!

We are still buzzing after an afternoon of flowers, food and fun. A heartfelt thank you also to our Board of Directors, who volunteer their time and guidance to support REACH behind the scenes!

Thank you to this commendable team of warm, inspiring people. We appreciate all that you bring to us and the community 💛

At REACH we know that delivering truly safe, respectful care means doing the deeper work of learning, unlearning, and building relationships in a different way. That’s why we recently offered a Two-Eyed Seeing workshop by Len Pierre Consulting (LPC) that was incredibly insightful, well designed and left lasting impressions on our team.

One of our team members shared: ‘Something that stayed with me is the past and present impacts of settler-colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and the need to actively work towards ongoing self-education, reflection, and communication.’

This workshop was extremely valuable in supporting us to take individual and team measures towards decolonization and reconciliation. Additionally, learning Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing are enriching from both a personal and health care lens.

If you are interested in reviewing the content, LPC kindly houses their presentations online here: https://www.lenpierreconsulting.com/presentations
Thank you to Marissa, Facilitator from LPC for an unforgettable afternoon of learning.
