Our Arabic Women’s Support Group had a beautiful, fun and sun-filled day at Cultus Lake, thanks to the generous support of BC Parks Foundation.

This trip gave our women and children a chance to enjoy nature, connect as a community, and feel welcomed in BC’s beautiful parks. We’re truly grateful for this support and the meaningful memories it helped create while making outdoor recreation accessible to all of our communities! 🌱

We held our most attended Lunch and Learn to date as part of REACH’s International Overdose Awareness Day campaign! Facilitated by one of our amazing Social Workers and Clinical Operations Director, this moving and insightful session focused on the current state of the overdose crisis, harm reduction strategies, naloxone training, and was followed up with meaningful conversation.

This session brought our staff together to learn, reflect, and take action. A huge thank you to our team for making this happen and for educating us all towards ending overdose 🙏

Our 'Not Alone - Together we Heal' campaign brought the community together at Margaret Mitchell Plaza to support ending overdose on International Overdose Awareness Day. The event focused on harm reduction education, resource sharing, and fostering healing through the “Make One, Take One - Healing Stones” activity.

We extend our special and heartfelt thanks to Elder Nagalanem (Rusty) for his opening, Drumming, and Smudging, MLA Amshen - Joan Phillip for her inspiring words and amazing support, and to our community partners, Health Initiative for Men (HIM), Peak House, First Nations Health Authority, Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House, and The Kettle Society for honoring lives lost and sharing their resources.

This day is always emotional. We appreciate everyone who attended for their vulnerability, solidarity, and commitment to learning about harm reduction and safe supply. Thank you for your support 💜💚

As part of our International Overdose Awareness Day event on Thursday September 28th, we invite you to visit our Healing Stones Station to create art and express your message of community support.

Honour a loved one lost to overdose, support someone on their recovery journey, or simply share a message of hope and camraderie. We have all the supplies you need to come and paint something meaningful on a stone of your choice, and you are welcome to take one away that speaks to your heart 🎨💚

Did you know that REACH has opioid antagonists Naloxone (Narcan) kits onsite that can quickly reverse an overdose and save a life in an overdose emergency?

It is always useful to carry a kit with you if you and/or a buddy are using substances. Watch this video from Provincial Health Services Authority - PHSA and BC Emergency Services to understand how to use these kits so you can act to reverse the effects of overdose.

REACH is looking for community members to serve on our Board of Directors. Could this be you?

We are looking for members of the East Vancouver community with the passion, time, energy and dedication to serve as a volunteer Board Director. As an organization committed to reconciliation, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, we encourage members of equity-seeking groups to put their names forward. We’re actively recruiting candidates in advance of our next Annual General Meeting in September.

We’re looking for you, if you...

● Believe that community health belongs in community hands.
● Believe that all people, regardless of gender, race, ability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or age should have access to an appropriate and wide range of integrated health and social services.
● Appreciate the value of community health centres as a model of primary care.
● Are looking for a way to give back to your local community and neighbours.
● Have the time to attend regular meetings (~6-10 hours/month).
● Live or work in East Vancouver, or use one of REACH’s programs.

We encourage all those interested to reach out. We are especially interested in finding candidates who:
● Are from equity-seeking groups, in an ongoing effort to better represent the community we serve.
● Have diverse perspectives and lived experience.
● Have expertise in Human Resources or Finance/Accounting.

Please note that you do not need to have experience in the healthcare sector in order to sit on the REACH Board – this is a common misconception! If you’re interested, click here for more information: https://www.reachcentre.bc.ca/join-the-reach-board and reach out to Emma Macklem, Co-Chair of the Nominating Committee (mack.emm@gmail.com).
