Great news! We've heard that Dr. Brian Day is not running for the Pacific Blue Cross Board of Directors in the rescheduled board elections.

If you use a Pacific Blue Cross as your benefits provider, be sure to vote for a board that will work to keep your benefits plan working for you! You can learn about the worker-endorsed candidates here: https://www.pbcforworkers.ca/

Members who are eligible to vote should have received an email yesterday afternoon with information about the voting period (voting opens Friday, August 23 at 8:00 am PT and closes Tuesday, September 3 at 4:30 pm PT). You should receive another email with a link to the voting platform tomorrow morning.

In June, we reached out to our supporters to let them know that Cambie Surgeries CEO Brian Day was running for the board of Pacific Blue Cross. Brian Day has a long history of trying to dismantle the public health care system for his own gain. In 2009, his private clinics were audited and later found to be illegally billing vulnerable patients for services funded by public health care. Instead of paying back the money after patients complained, he infamously launched a legal challenge seeking to force Canada to move towards a US-Style healthcare system that would allow private insurance companies to offer - and deny - coverage for basic care like visits to the doctor or the emergency room.

The June elections were postponed when the PBC board discovered that that the administration of the election and associated AGM was not fully in compliance with PBC Bylaws and the BC Societies Act.

Thankfully, Dr. Day is not running in these rescheduled elections, but we know that having a board of directors that value people and the principles of public health care is still important for BC's largest not-for-profit benefits provider.

Please encourage anyone you know who uses Pacific Blue Cross as a benefits provider to vote before September 3rd!

Duration: Eight month temporary leave coverage contract with possibility for position to become permanent

Compensation: $46.22/hour plus extended benefits benefits (including Paramedical coverage) and RRSP contributions as set out in a collective agreement

Start Date: September 2, 2024
Expected End Date: March 21, 2025 with possibility of extension
