"Honoured to Guide Your Healing Process"
I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, and have more than 15 years of experience working as a Clinical Counsellor with Vancouver Coastal Health, Battered Women Support Services, and Vancouver School Board to name a few. Throughout my career, I have acquired deep experience in areas related to trauma and addictions, abuse and PTSD. I have also worked with the Deaf community and am fluent in both English and Spanish. Other areas of specialty include: chronic pain, emotional disturbance, life transitions, sexual abuse, and stress management.
I have been a facilitator of the STAR Addictions Group with Vancouver Coastal Health, specifically the “Rising STAR”, a six-week early recovery program that teaches essential recovery skills from a harm-reduction perspective. ( The STAR program in Vancouver Coastal Health is composed of the following: Rising STAR, a six-week early recovery program that teaches essential recovery skills from a harm-reduction perspective and Bright STAR, a six-week intensive program that is abstinence-based. And a drop-in group for all women in recovery called Morning STAR is also available on an ongoing weekly basis.)
I’m a lifelong learner, and I engage in continuing education on a regular basis related to both of my passions: Counselling and Yoga.
I am a Yoga Therapist and a certified Yoga Instructor, with expertise in modalities backed up by science such as Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Restorative Yoga. Since 2011, I have trained in a variety of Yoga styles including Restorative, Hot Yoga and Trauma Sensitive Yoga, accumulating over 320 hours of formal teacher training. I have also taught Trauma Informed Yoga for the women attending the STAR program, a recovery program at VCH. I have also successfully completed the BC First Responder’s Health Occupational Awareness Training for Treating First Responders Trauma, officially endorsed by the BC Professional Firefighters Association. This Certification qualifies me to work with first responders, including Fire Fighters, Nurses, Police Officers, Paramedics and other medical and healthcare professionals. This Certification along with my Advanced Specialty Certificate in Forensic Science enables me to have a deeper awareness and understanding of the trauma associated with first responders in the field. In October 2016, I provided an evidence-based presentation on Yoga and Mental Health for the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, called Yoga for the Soul: Myth or Reality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoidGWGLUN0
