On World Refugee Day, we reflect upon the collective strength, bravery and courage of the millions of refugees around the world.
As the the number of displaced persons around the world reaches its highest levels in recorded history, it is essential for us to hear their voices, share their stories and protect these vulnerable people from the horrors of war, poverty, political persecution, human rights abuses and violence.
Refugees are mothers, fathers, children, nurses, doctors, teachers, lawyers, sisters, brothers and friends.
Canada has always been a global leader and safe haven for refugees— but we can still do more. As the Member of Parliament for Scarborough- Rouge Park and a former refugee, I will continue to work with my federal colleagues in Ottawa and international partners around the world to ensure greater safety, security and protection for the world’s refugees.
