If you are looking for "pure" Magnesium "Bisglycinate", you should know this:

**** Labels that say Magnesium Bisglycinate "200mg Pure" is misleading ****

Why?

Because the 200mg refers to magnesium only. If you look at the ingredients listed, it says "magnesium bisglycinate (~76%) AND magnesium oxide (~24%)".

In other words, only about 730mg is bisglycinate. Since magnesium bisglycinate is made up of ~14% magnesium, that means only about 100mg magnesium is derived from bisglycinate. Why is this information important?

As shown earlier, the oxide form has very poor absorption rate, so you're basically paying for nothing. Because of this poor absorbability, some people use it as a laxative.

My take on this? If you want "pure" bisglycinate, look at the label and make sure it lists ONLY magnesium bisglycinate as the active ingredient. The magnesium content ranges from 99mg to 120mg. There is no 200mg from magnesium bisglycinate on the market at this time because the molecule is too big to fit 1,460mg of magnesium bisglycinate in a 00 capsule.

Magnesium is one of today’s most popular supplements — and for good reason. But like any vitamin or mineral, it’s not “the more, the better.” If you’re on medication, it’s especially important to be cautious.

Here’s a helpful article with tips on taking magnesium safely. Enjoy the read!

Medically reviewed by Femi Aremu, PharmD There are some medications you should not mix with magnesium to avoid potential side effects or interactions. These include antibiotics, diuretics, bisphosphonates, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), and zinc. While magnesium is available as a supplement, it is n...

However, it's a lot more expensive to buy a liposomal version of vitamin C than the plain old ascorbic acid. So, it is worth it? It depends. For vitamin C, it only makes sense if, for whatever reason, high dose is needed. Here's a good explanation from the Linus Pauling Institute of Oregan State University:

Bioavailability of Vitamin C

"Depletion-repletion pharmacokinetic experiments demonstrated that plasma vitamin C concentration is tightly controlled by three primary mechanisms: intestinal absorption, tissue transport, and renal reabsorption. In response to increasing oral doses of vitamin C, plasma vitamin C concentration rises steeply at intakes between 30 and 100 mg/day. Plasma concentrations of ascorbate reach steady-state at concentrations between 60 and 80 micromoles/L (μmol/L). This is typically observed at doses between 200 to 400 mg/day in healthy young adults, with some degree of individual variation.

One hundred percent absorption efficiency is observed when ingesting vitamin C at doses up to 200 mg at a time. Higher doses (>500 mg) result in fractionally less vitamin C being absorbed as the dose increases. Once plasma vitamin C concentrations reach saturation, additional vitamin C is largely excreted in the urine."

Table of Contents Español Summary Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. Unlike most mammals and other animals, humans do not have the ability to synthesize vitamin C and must obtain it from the diet.  (More information) Vitamin C is an essential cofactor in numerou...

Liposomes in supplements are tiny spherical vesicles—essentially microscopic “bubbles”—made from phospholipids (the same type of fat that makes up cell membranes). In supplements, they’re used as delivery systems to improve how well certain nutrients are absorbed and utilized by the body.

Here’s what they’re used for and why:

1. Enhance Bioavailability
Problem: Many nutrients (like vitamin C, curcumin, glutathione, CoQ10) are poorly absorbed when taken in standard capsule or tablet form because they get broken down in the digestive tract before reaching the bloodstream.

Liposome Solution: Liposomes encapsulate these nutrients, protecting them from stomach acid and digestive enzymes so more of the active ingredient reaches the cells intact.

2. Targeted Delivery
Liposomes can fuse with cell membranes, allowing nutrients to enter cells more efficiently.

This can be especially helpful for compounds that are otherwise difficult to transport into cells, like certain antioxidants or fat-soluble vitamins.

3. Reduced Side Effects
By delivering nutrients more efficiently, smaller doses may be needed to achieve the same effect, potentially reducing digestive irritation (common with high-dose vitamin C, magnesium, etc.).

4. Applications in Supplements
Common liposomal supplement types include:

1/ Vitamin C - 15 to 30% absorption rate (higher doses cause GI upset). Liposome increases absorption rate up to 90% (reduced GI upset).

2/ Glutathione - rapidly broken down in GI tract. Liposome protects it from being broken down and enhances direct cellular uptake.

3/ Curcumin (Turmeric) - Poor absorption (

New on the market: Magnesium Acetyl Taurate

It’s essentially magnesium bonded with acetyl-taurine, combining the neuroprotective potential of acetylated taurine with magnesium’s calming and cardiovascular support benefits.

Key points about Magnesium Acetyl Taurate:

1/ Brain health: May cross the blood–brain barrier more effectively than regular magnesium taurate, potentially supporting memory, focus, and mood regulation.

2/ Nervous system support: The acetyl group may enhance taurine’s ability to protect neurons and regulate neurotransmitters.

3/ Heart benefits: Similar to magnesium taurate, it may help stabilize blood pressure and support heart rhythm.

4/ Rarer on the market: Often found in niche nootropic or advanced cardiovascular formulations rather than general magnesium supplements.

Common Types of Magnesium Supplements

Here are several widely used forms:

1. Magnesium Citrate – Highly bioavailable; often used as a laxative (CitroMag) and to raise magnesium levels.
2. Magnesium Glycinate (Bisglycinate) – Gentle on the stomach, calming; well absorbed.
3. Magnesium Oxide – Very common; inexpensive but poorly absorbed; often used for indigestion or constipation.
4. Magnesium Malate – Combines magnesium with malic acid; absorbs well; may benefit those with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue.
5. Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) – Commonly used topically or as a laxative; lower bioavailability.
6. Magnesium Taurate – Bonded with taurine; potentially supports heart health, blood pressure, and blood sugar regulation.
7. Magnesium L Threonate – Well absorbed and may cross the blood-brain barrier; supports brain health and cognitive function.
8. Magnesium Chloride – Versatile, well absorbed, used both orally and topically.
9. Magnesium Lactate – Less common; gentle on the digestive system and easily absorbed.
10. Magnesium Orotate – Not always listed among top types, but available; may support heart and nerve function.
11. Magnesium Aspartate / Asparaginate – Amino-acid-based forms; good bioavailability; used clinically or for deficiency.
12. Magnesium Carbonate / Hydroxide / Pidolate – Often used as antacids or laxatives.
