Who's Who In HEN?
Behind the scenes at HEN are our dedicated volunteers. As a volunteer driven organization we would not be here without those who step in to support, create, ideate and oversee key functions. This month I introduce you to leadership team member - Simone.
Simone Sulk:
Beginning of 2019 I went to my very first in person Hakomi weekend and to this day I remember the first person I did an exercise with. ‘This is a real person, someone who shows himself, listens and wants to see me! How often does that happen in my daily life? Uh, it feels GOOD!’ And them my head kicked in ‘What are they doing here?’ For the rest of the year my husband and I went once a month to a Hakomi weekend and after a little while I could sense a pattern in the organization of these weekends, although I couldn’t name them. I remember the joy of being the new person in a group of people that to me seemed to know what they were doing. A delight not to have to know, instead just flow! I loved the gentleness of the method, so at the end of 2019 I decided to find out about the secret of Hakomi. There it is again: adventure waiting for me. Let’s dive in.
Beginning of 2020 I started learning and then COVID hit. When a lot of people didn’t know what to do with time at their hands - I did. Let’s read, learn, watch, witness, and try, try and try again Hakomi. I let Hakomi seep into my life to see how it changed almost unnoticeably the trajectory of it. At one point I doubted if I was the right person to learn Hakomi, dove deep into that process and came out after months at the other end with a pearl in my hands “Yes, I am the right person to learn Hakomi. I’m not perfect, but that is who I am, too. That IS how I will show up.” In hindsight I love that I allowed myself that thought and to delve into it. While learning I started to see with Hakomi eyes, listen with Hakomi ears and perceive with Hakomi mind. Also when I got entangled in thoughts and/ or feelings I became aware of it. A first step to do something about it. ;-)
Over time I learned to hold that entanglement gently like a baby, look at it and see what it yields for me when I pay Hakomi attention to it. I find new landscapes in these internal adventures, carry myself with more ease - even my edges- to the outside world. I’m more at ease with myself and others. That to me is a solid foundation to be in the world with ease, to live life in a wakeful way while being involved. In February 2025 I became a practitioner and was surprised when people that I practised certain techniques with while learning, approached me asking if I could do full sessions with them. Who knew?!
If you are curious about Hakomi, just try and see what happens. Any entry point, an online
My big goal is to bring Hakomi into the world. This method is so gentle and powerful at the same time, to me it needs to get out into the world. Imagine by John Lennon comes to mind “ You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one …” . Right now I’m organizing Hakomi retreats together with other Hakomis. Every time we have a mixed group of beginners and seasoned Hakomis in those retreats. Did you notice - treat is a part of that word? You are welcome."
