Quick bladder habit check 🚽👀

How do you usually sit on the toilet?

This week we had a farewell party at my clinic 🎈

It got me thinking about how fast time moves and how much the little habits matter.

One of those habits is bathroom posture.

Hovering 😬
Straining ⬇️
Perching on the edge

Most women do this without realizing it trains the bladder the wrong way ⚠️

Hovering keeps the pelvic floor clenched, which makes it harder to empty fully and can trigger urgency later 🚨

Straining adds pressure and teaches the bladder to rely on force instead of coordination.

Support matters too 👇
Feet dangling 🦶
Spine slumped 🪑
Pelvis tucked

Over time this can show up as more urgency, more bathroom trips, and leaks that feel random 💧

The good news? The fix is simple 💡

Sit all the way back.
Feet flat or on a small stool 🪜
Lean slightly forward.
Relax your belly 🤍

No pushing ❌
No hovering ❌

Your bladder learns from what you repeat 🔁

Small habit.
Big difference over time ✨

🧠 Why I Take a Whole-Body Approach to Bladder Issues

People sometimes ask me directly:
“Who are you — and how can you actually help me?”

Here’s the short version 👇

🩺 21 years in health & wellness
🧠 16+ years as a Physical Therapist
🏃‍♀️ Degree in Exercise Science
🧘‍♀️ Certified Clinical Pilates Instructor

Before pelvic health, I spent years as an orthopedic PT solving real-world problems like:
• back pain
• hip pain
• SI joint pain
• post-surgery rehab

This is my superpower 💡
I see patterns fast.

🚨 Sciatica + Bladder Urgency Are Connected 🚨

If you deal with:
🍑 deep butt pain
⚡ zappy pain down the leg
🔥 burning, tingling, or numbness
🦶 pins and needles in the calf or foot

…and you also have bladder urgency or frequency 🚽 - this matters.

One of the most common contributors to sciatica is a small but powerful muscle called the piriformis.

👉 And yes, it’s part of your pelvic floor team.

When the piriformis gets tight, overworked, or clenched 😣
It can irritate the sciatic nerve.

When that nerve is irritated, your nervous system often goes into protection mode 🚨

More guardy.
More jumpy.
More reactive.

Your bladder is wired into this same system 🧠

Your bladder doesn’t just respond to fullness.

It responds to:
🔒 safety
⚡ tension
🔁 patterns

That’s why a Bossy Bladder often shows up with:

• tight hips
• a tired pelvic floor
• recurring butt or leg pain

If the pelvic floor team is struggling and the sciatic nerve is irritated, your brain may treat bladder signals like an emergency 🚨

👉 more urgency
👉 more frequency
👉 more “I have to go NOW”, even when the bladder isn’t full

✨ The upside ✨
When pelvic floor function, hip mechanics, and pressure management improve…

Bladder control gets easier 🙌
AND so do back pain, hip pain, SI joint pain, and that annoying sciatic zing.

It’s not random.
It’s the system working together.

🦴 “My Back and Hips Feel Better Than They Did in PT”

That’s what Pat told me... and that’s not even why she started the program!

🗣️ “I now know that I have control, not my bladder.”

Before doing this work, she couldn’t walk into Target without panic 😰

She’d hit the bathroom 🚽
Then go back again.
And again.
Sometimes 3–4 times before leaving.

The urgencies didn’t feel real.
But her body acted like they were.

And she leaked 💧 - so she kept going “just in case.”

That’s a Bossy Bladder pattern.

It’s not just peeing a lot.

🚨 It’s living on alert.
🧠 It’s scanning for bathrooms.
📉 It’s shrinking your world.

Now?
She can walk in and actually decide.

💭 “It’s not that urgent.”
💭 “I can wait.”

She stays until she truly needs to go.
She’s not leaking.
She’s not panic-planning exits.

Her back and hips feel better than when she was only doing her previous PT exercises.

That’s what happens when you stop treating the bladder as a standalone problem.

When pelvic floor function, pressure management, and core coordination improve - bladder control improves.

Spontaneity.

You stop being free.
You start managing. 🚻

You plan exits.
You plan fluids.
You plan how long you can stay.

Last week I did something spontaneous. ❄️☀️
No rushing.
No managing.
No “just in case.”

Just freedom.

And this week inside BCS, a client:
🚶‍♀️ Went for a walk
🏸 Played badminton for 45 minutes
💧 Stayed completely dry

No rushing.
No cutting things short.

THIS is bladder confidence.

Real life.
Real moments.

This kind of freedom is not luck.
It’s trained.

And it starts with understanding your pattern.
