In Loving Memory of John William Neil Crittenden
1939-2026

John William Neal Crittenden passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at Cartier House Care Centre at the age of 86. Our sincere thanks to the wonderful and caring nurses and staff who cared for him.

Born in Brandon, Manitoba, John lived a life defined by deep curiosity, artistic passion, and a profound appreciation for the natural and historical world. From an early age, he was drawn to the beauty of the western Canadian landscape, a lifelong fascination that shaped his work and his worldview.

John, at his essence, was a creator — a professional painter, printmaker, poet, photographer, author, and designer. As a proud man of Irish and Anishinaabe Ojibway ancestry, John carried with him a deep sense of connection to the land and to Canada’s history. His painting focused especially on the heritage of the Canadian West. His art, including over 1200 original paintings, was exhibited across the nation from coast to coast and appeared in many publications, including the Who’s Who in American Art.

In Loving Memory of Anna Petronella Maria Chamberlain
1948-2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Anna Petronella Maria Chamberlain, who left this world peacefully on January 7, 2026, with her daughters lovingly by her side.

Anna’s story began in Rotterdam, Netherlands, where she was born to Leonardus (“Len/Leo”) and Barendina (“Tina”) Dircks. In 1956, her family embarked on a remarkable journey, immigrating to British Columbia, Canada. From Rotterdam, they sailed aboard the Big Bear, Holland America landing in Montreal, then traveling by train to Vancouver, and finally by a ferry to Duncan on Vancouver Island. When she was twelve, the family settled in Prince Rupert, where Anna grew into her teenage years and remained connected to the community for many more decades.

As her life unfolded, Anna embraced love and companionship with an open heart. She experienced more than one marriage, each union marking a chapter filled with lessons, laughter, and adventure. Though her path was unconventional, it reflected her belief in living fully and fearlessly. From these unions and her many loves, Anna’s greatest joy came in becoming the mother of her two daughters, Barendina and Alexandra.

In Loving Memory of Brian Arthur Smith (1964-2025)

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Brian Arthur Smith, of Vancouver, BC, announce his passing November 4th, 2025.

He was the youngest son of the late Laurie and Kay Smith, of Halifax, NS and sibling to Patricia, Stephen, Cathy and David. He was predeceased by his eldest brother, Larry.
