NUTRITION: KEEP THE BALL ROLLING!

With just days to go before the 2015 Vancouver Sun Run, you may be wondering… What’s next?

Keep the momentum going with your exercise routine and healthy eating by viewing your upcoming race as the first step to a healthier you. Here are some tips to keep you moving forward:
Find what motivates you
If you’ve been successful with healthy eating and exercise mostly because you know you have a race to complete, pick a couple more! Or consider choosing a different motivator. Maybe you want to set a good example for your children, or plan an adventure at a destination that requires good fitness and health. Whatever your motivator, grab it and hold on to it - it’s easier to maintain rather than trying to get here again from square one.
Work on your weaknesses
We all know that healthy eating isn’t always easy. What have been your greatest challenges? Once you identify your problem areas, you can start to find ways to work on them.
Be realistic
Set yourself up for success by making realistic and achievable goals. For example, if eating breakfast consistently has been challenging for you, start off with some fruit every day and slowly work your way up to a complete meal.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Lean on friends and family in moments of weakness. If you need more support or guidance, make an appointment with a registered dietitian - we translate the science of nutrition into practical strategies for you to see your goals.
Take it to the next level
Feel like you’ve mastered the basics of healthy eating? Pick a new challenge - eat more vegetables each day, make a new healthy recipe each week, learn to bake healthy treats! The list goes on.
