In May, physicians and professionals from the Committee’s Adverse Childhood Experiences working group—part of the Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use Community of Practice—spent a day discussing trauma-informed practices with Surrey Police Service officers, civilian staff, and other community organizations.
Through understanding how trauma presents itself and what steps to take to prevent further traumatization, police officers can offer even more compassionate support to vulnerable community members, fostering understanding and patience during interactions.
