Seedlings Child and Youth Counselling and Consulting

Seedlings Child and Youth Counselling and Consulting At Seedlings we strive to help children, youth and families overcome life's challenges by offering professional counselling and consultation services.

At Seedlings Counselling, children, youth and caregivers are provided a safe and caring space to gently explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are impacting the quality of their every day lives. Our trained counsellors understand how troubling it can be when a child is overcome by fear, worry, anger, or sadness. That's why we're here to help employ a wide range of effective counselling methods - including individual play and expressive therapies, family counselling, group counselling and psycho-educational programs - suited to a child's unique needs, in order to help him/her understand, cope with, and express feelings in positive and healthy ways. A counselling relationship with a Seedlings' counsellor can help you and your child understand what is at the root of problematic behaviours and/or dynamics that may interfere with your lives. By way of a therapeutic process grounded in trust, support, openness, and respect, working with our counsellors will help you and your child cultivate increased self awareness, coping skills, self esteem, and expressive ability. This will often lead to improved child, parent, and family harmony, stability, and overall mental health. Services available include:

- Individual Child and Adult Counselling
- Play Therapy
- Family Counselling
- Filial Therapy ( Parent and Child)
- Expressive Therapies
- Trauma Counselling
- EMDR
- Critical Incident Debriefing

Lorna Williams teaches stillness through the Lil'wat principle Kat'il'a.

"Within the increasing demands and speed in our lives, we need to seek out spaces that allow for changed pace, contemplating deeply our experiences and the wisdom of others" - Sanford, Williams, Hopper & McGregor, "Indigenous Principles Decolonizing Teacher Education: What We Have Learned"

Try tapping into the power of stillness this with one of these practices to guide yourself and your child to focus on a particular sensation through sight, sound, or touch.

How many times have you heard a child say "I"m BORED" this summer? According to Stephanie Lee, PsyD, Director of the ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute, “Boredom might not be super distressing but it’s not fun. Life requires us to manage our frustrations and regulate our emotions when things aren’t going our way, and boredom is a great way to teach that skill.” Check out the article, The Benefits of Boredom, where you'll learn how you can help your child transform boredom into something fun and creative.

Summer often means exposure to a range of sensory stimuli that are vastly different from what children experience during the school year. Some children may find the new and intense sensations of summer to be uncomfortable or distressing - especially those who are highly sensitive or have sensory processing challenges.

Our friends at the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education are hosting their next Heart-Mind Live Webinar, Inclusion Through a Heart-Mind Lens: A Journey of Identity and Belonging with Shelley Moore, on May 11th!

Expert educator and researcher, 5 Moore Minutes with Shelley Moore will share her own story of inclusion and how her understanding of belonging has deepened and evolved over time. Bringing an inclusive lens to fostering social emotional learning means being mindful of the different environments, contexts, and histories that children inhabit and bring to their places of learning, be they at home, in nature, or in schools. Through stories, humour, research, and practical ideas, Shelley will explore neurodiversity, disability, and gender identity, and how to effectively build on every child’s strengths and uniquenesses in this webinar designed for educators, parents, caregivers and service providers interested in supporting children’s development.

Registrants will receive a recording of the webinar to watch if they cannot join in at the scheduled time.
