On January 7th, Japanese people traditionally eat Nanakusa-gayu (ไธ่็ฒฅ), a rice porridge with seven spring herbs, which helps soothe and reset the digestive system after the indulgent holiday season.
Nanakusa-gayu is part of an ancient New Year's tradition called Jinjitsu (ไบบๆฅ), which promotes health and welcomes the coming spring. The seven herbs typically include:
- Seri (water dropwort)
- Nazuna (shepherd's purse)
- Gogyo (cudweed)
- Hakobera (chickweed)
- Hotokenoza (henbit)
- Suzuna (turnip)
- Suzushiro (radish)
