Rapid health checks are transforming cardiovascular care in London, as a new initiative expands to 70 pharmacies, shifting services from hospitals to the high street.

As recently highlighted by the BBC, our community pharmacy testing pilot delivered with Barts Health showed that:

→ Of 1,000 people tested for cholesterol, 163 were identified as high risk of a heart attack or stroke.

→ 50 patients were started on cholesterol-lowering treatment directly through their pharmacy, without the need to go via their GP.

The trial's initial success brings an expansion to 70 more locations in east London, showing us that pharmacies can quickly become a powerful pathway to preventative and proactive care in the community with the harnessing of digital tools—directly speaking to the pillars of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan.
