Acute trauma can look loud or quiet.
Sometimes it shows up as anxiety, restlessness, and feeling on edge. Other times it looks like numbness, shutdown, or feeling unreal. You might notice sleep disruption, a stronger startle response, irritability, brain fog, replaying the event, or avoiding reminders. None of this means you are weak or broken. It means your nervous system is doing what it was designed to do after something overwhelming: protect you.
If this is you, start small. Support basic needs, reduce stimulation, add gentle movement, and connect with one safe person. When symptoms spike, try this: name the sensation in your body, then choose one small action that signals safety.
If you want a deeper framework, Hope After Trauma Academy’s Trauma Informed Care course teaches practical tools for safety cues, predictability, choice points, and regulation you can use in real life.
