With air quality forecasted to stumble at times this summer across many cities in Canada (and in the US), what are its effects on the skin (and beyond) and what are some protective strategies?

Full circle!

Dr. Li was honoured to speak at the Annual Conference held in Toronto yesterday (on a topic professionally and personally important to her, no less) where in the same city and same meeting almost 10 years ago, she received a scientific award from the Canadian Professors of Dermatology.

She was reunited with her former program director, Dr. Régine Mydlarski - a brilliant, beautiful and kind early mentor and teacher - heartfelt congratulations on your Award of Merit!

So much to be grateful for, and so much more to give.

A busy past weekend…in no other place but Vegas!

Dr. Li served as faculty at the annual  meeting, speaking on practical considerations and pearls on the use of lasers in more richly pigmented patients as well as her microneedling research and experiences. 

She was honoured and humbled to be named as a 4 under 45 MVP, and to share the stage with esteemed dermatology and plastic surgery colleagues from around the world. 

All in all, a wonderful time reconnecting with like-minded peers and friends, and to bring new perspectives and learnings back home to enhance patient care.

Showering: art or science?

Dr. Li was recently interviewed by reporter Kevin Jiang on many things showering: timing, frequency, temperature and more. 

She joins two expert colleagues from Toronto to share tips and insights on the topic.

Her high yield tips include:

🚿 The shorter the shower, the better - preferably 5 minutes or less
🚿 Use lukewarm or slightly cooler water 
🚿 Focus the use of cleansers on armpits, groin, buttocks and feet
🚿 Pat, not rub, the skin dry after a shower
🚿 Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturizer right after!

☑️ Hat
☑️ Sunglasses
☑️ Protective clothing
☑️ Reapplication of SPF every 2 hours

Celebrating with a larger-than-life bottle of SPF!

Important parameters when choosing a sunscreen:

☀️ SPF 30 and higher
☀️ Broad-spectrum (UVA & UVB) protection
☀️ “Water-resistant” or “sport” labeling if engaging in physical or aquatic activities outdoors

And the best sunscreen? It’s the one you like and will use every day, at least 365 times a year.

With Mother's Day on the horizon, Dr. Li was honoured to celebrate the occasion at inaugural Mother's brunch this past weekend.

A wonderful event raising funds for a bedside device to better manage post-partum hemorrhage and for skin-to-skin kangaroo nets to help infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit bond with their mothers.

A beautiful fundraiser supporting important causes!

Exciting advances in dermatology on the horizon!

Dr. Li had a productive three days at the Dermatology Update Spring 2023 meeting, where she:

💡Chaired an advisory board evaluating the newest data of a topical acne medication on the sequelae of acne
💡Helped develop an algorithm on atopic dermatitis for patients with racial/ethnic variation (pictured)
💡Shared perspectives on hyperpigmentation treatment approaches
