5 year touchup on an out of town client.

SMP has a tendency of migrating over time. It’s simply the nature of fine line tattoos. Especially if you have sun exposure on the scalp! Migration is unavoidable.

That’s why it’s important, during the initial SMP sessions, to not go too dense or dark. Subtle SMP is the way to go. I always leave a little breathing room between follicles, I watch my depth! and I use a pigment that’ll age well.

For this client, I went in and sprinkled a little pepper on top of the old SMP. Nothing crazy - just added a little texture and dimension.

I didn’t use any modifier during the initial sessions and nothing during the touchup. I used SOLID INK SMP PIGMENT - MEDIUM which is pre-mixed and ready to go. No charts. No confusing ratios to think about ✖️➕➗🟰. Just shake and pour!

SMP touchup after 5 years.

Scalp Micropigmentation has a tendency of migrating over time. No matter who does it, that’s the nature of SMP.

The key during a touchup is to leave some breathing room between follicles.

At some point the SMP should be lasered off to start with a clean slate. We offer that service at .kiku using the PicoWay laser.

If you have SMP that’s been maxed out with touchups and you’re looking for a fresh look then you may want to consider laser first.

Depending on who does it - the quality of laser SMP removal differs just like the quality of SMP differs.

Be careful with who you choose to get you back to square one.

My client came in for a 6 year touchup. The pigment faded and migrated a bit as can be expected for SMP.

The new layer was done with a slightly darker pigment to create a little dimension.

I used Solid Ink SMP Pigment (medium), a Bishop 0603 needle and a Hatchbqck Irons Sharp Pen to get this touchup done in an hour.

This client had his SMP done by me back in 2016. At the time he had long hair and he wanted the density look.

It was looking flat so he wanted a touchup.

I used SOLID INK SMP PIGMENT x DARK to create a little contrasting stubble with The SHARP by

Touchups are $250/hr and it takes around 1 hr for a full head like this.
