The Age of Aquarius – Myths and Reality
What made me pick up the pen (well, open Word) was the discrepancy between the expectations surrounding the Age of Aquarius and how it's actually unfolding. People started talking about the new era decades before it began—astrologers, esoteric thinkers, and basically anyone who felt like it. They even wrote a song about it. Everyone was expecting miracles, universal happiness, and enlightenment. Not exactly what we are having now, right?
Let me remind you what the Age of Aquarius represents from an astrological point of view. The change of astrological ages is tied to the precession of the Earth’s axis, where the sidereal point of the spring equinox very slowly shifts counterclockwise. Each age lasts a little over two thousand years—more precisely, 2,148 years. The Age of Pisces, which began around the time of Jesus Christ’s appearance, has ended and passed the baton to Aquarius.
The core value of Pisces is Faith, and it’s no coincidence that Christianity was the dominant religion during that era. And what’s most important for Aquarius? The very motto of the French Revolution—Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. In some ways, that slogan has accompanied all revolutions, and history has shown us what came out of those well-meaning intentions.
Yes, the Age of Aquarius has indeed arrived. Astrologers name 2020 or 2021 as the starting point, although it may have happened a little earlier. We are already living in the new era. And, so? I began to ask myself: where is the unity of humanity, the collective consciousness, the free thinking, and the acceptance of other perspectives that are supposed to be hallmarks of Aquarius? Instead of unity, we’re seeing global division. Maybe this is just the beginning of the age—its embryonic stage. Let’s approach the question realistically, without the New Age excitement.
The new era began in a rather logical way—with a global epidemic that was meant to unite the entire world. And to some extent, it actually did: we realized that we were all in the same boat (albeit one with a massive hole). Humanity also witnessed how beautifully nature recovers without human interference. And what happened next? In the shortest possible time, all the lessons learned were completely forgotten. I am still stunned by the stupidity and rigidity of our species.
Let’s take a closer look at the problem of division. The symbol of Aquarius is a person holding two (!) vessels: one containing dead water, the other living water. There is a tale in Russian folklore. When a brave young warrior fell in battle, a skilled witch/fairy/healer would be found. Armed with two magical vessels, she would first pour the dead water over the body to close the wounds and reattach the limbs. Only afterward would she use the living water to breathe life back into the body. And the warrior would rise from the dead—whole and healthy.
An interesting story... It seems we’re currently going through the stage of dead water—that is, the removal of obstacles to harmony. Of course, this era of global divide is dangerous, but it also exposes the malignant tumors in the body of humanity—tumors that must be removed. Sadly, a scalpel won’t help here (even though many will hope for such a method), and the process of recovery will be long. A hundred or two hundred years is nothing from the point of view of evolution.
The global rift that has already occurred—and continues to deepen—is disheartening. But imagine, dear readers (and if you’re reading this, you’re probably not among the narrow-minded), how can one be on the same wavelength as those who consider the murder of infidels a matter of honor? Or with those who blindly shuffle along in a bleating herd, glorifying a smug tyrant or dictator? The list of people we wouldn’t want to be associated with could be very long indeed. This divide isn’t just happening between countries—I’m seeing it in small communities where nothing like this ever happened before.
What does this turbulent time want from us? Of course, it's impossible to quickly arrive at a common denominator. But, then again—do we need to? We’re not robots; each of us has our own opinion. But this is where awareness becomes essential—so that your opinion is truly your own, coming from the heart and not something imposed from outside. Right now, we are living in a time that demands a conscious stance. The mindset of “I don’t see anything, I don’t hear anything, and it doesn’t concern me” won’t cut it anymore.
The Age of Aquarius is not about forced equality—it’s about freedom for each individual, but with a mandatory respect for others. Until we approach that ideal, humanity will continue to be shaken. I'm not even bringing up ecological issues here, but respect for planet Earth is also essential.
A long time ago, I read some lines by Bruno Jasieński that left a deep impression on me:
“Do not fear your enemies – at worst, they can kill you.
Do not fear your friends – at worst, they may betray you.
Fear the indifferent – they neither kill nor betray,
But only with their silent consent do betrayal and murder exist on this Earth”.
Let’s not be indifferent…
