What if a common mouth bacterium could actually help fuel cancer? 💭

That question drives Prof. Gilad Bachrach, an ICRF-funded researcher at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Through Fusolisin Inhibition for Treating Tumors Colonized by Fusobacterium nucleatum, his team studies how this oral bacterium binds to and colonizes tumors and was among the first globally to genetically manipulate it, uncovering key mechanisms that could open new therapeutic pathways.

Now they’re focusing on a bacterial enzyme they discovered, FUSOLISIN– and early results are remarkable! Blocking this enzyme kills the bacteria inside tumors and triggers an immune response that helps suppress cancer growth 🦠

This is the kind of innovation happening thanks to ICRF-funded research.
