Acupressure Corner: DU‑20

A simple way to bring yourself back into balance.

DU‑20 is a powerful point used in acupuncture to calm the mind, clear mental fog, and support emotional steadiness.

To locate it:
Place your fingers on the highest point of both ears and imagine a line connecting them across the top of your head. Press gently on the midpoint, holding for 30 seconds to 1 minute as you breathe slowly and relax.

For moments when you need a little more focus, try tapping this point for 30 seconds to re‑energize your mind.

When all else fails, contact Lekha and let the healing begin.

Stillness is medicine.

When you give your body a moment of quiet, it knows what to do.

Acupuncture supports this reset — easing stress, calming the mind, and guiding the body toward a more peaceful state.

Healing deepens when we slow down.

Spring Renewal — Balanced Qi, Balanced You

As nature awakens, so does the body’s energy. Spring invites movement, growth, and renewal — but it can also bring imbalance as our systems adjust to the season’s upward flow.

Acupuncture helps guide this transition with ease, supporting the Liver and Gallbladder meridians that govern spring’s energy. By restoring smooth circulation of Qi, it helps you feel lighter, clearer, and more aligned with the rhythm of the season.

Seasonal Harmony Begins with Balanced Qi.

Stress and emotional pressure don’t just live in the mind — they settle into the body.

Traditional acupuncture helps release that weight, soften the nervous system, and create space to breathe again.

It’s a gentle, time‑honoured way to support anxiety, restore balance, and reconnect with yourself when life feels heavy.

A small moment of stillness can shift everything.

Renewal of Spring — The Wood Element (Liver)

Spring’s rising energy isn’t just about upward movement — it’s about creating healthy circulation of qi. That upward flow can only happen when our center is stable, nourished, and grounded.

Here are simple ways to support a healthy center so your energy can rise and descend in a smooth, harmonious way:

• Acupressure — CV12
Located midway between the sternum and the belly button.
Gently massage this point while inhaling and exhaling slowly, keeping your awareness on the breath entering and leaving the nostrils.

• Nourish with Spring Foods
Lean into leafy greens and foods with sour or bitter notes — they naturally support the Liver and Gallbladder.

• Lighten Your Diet
Avoid greasy, fried foods that burden the Liver. Choose meals that are simple, warm, and easy to digest.

• Hydrate
Water keeps qi moving freely. Sip throughout the day.

• Mindful Breathing
Try diaphragmatic breathing: Inhale for 4 counts → exhale for 6 counts → hold for 2 counts. Repeat for 5 minutes to calm the mind and regulate the nervous system.

Spring is the season of renewal — support your center, and let your energy rise with ease.

Can Acupuncture Help with Anxiety, Stress, and Migraines?

Many people turn to acupuncture for its calming, restorative benefits — and for good reason. By gently stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system, lower cortisol (your stress hormone), and boost serotonin and dopamine, the chemicals that support mood and emotional balance.

Clients often report feeling deeply relaxed after a session, along with better sleep, reduced tension, and a greater sense of overall well‑being. It’s also been shown to help with generalized anxiety disorder and may offer relief for migraines and tension headaches.

Because acupuncture supports both the mind and body, it’s often paired with therapy, meditation, and lifestyle changes to create a more holistic approach to managing stress and improving mental health.

What Is the Amygdala — and Why Does It Matter?

Your **amygdala** may be small, but its role in your life is enormous. This tiny structure deep inside your brain is a major emotional processing center. It helps you:

- Interpret emotions
- Link feelings to memories
- Respond to stress and threat
- Connect emotions with learning and your senses

When the amygdala becomes overactive or dysregulated, it can contribute to overwhelming emotions and difficult symptoms.

How Acupuncture Supports the Amygdala

Research shows that acupuncture can influence activity in the amygdala—particularly the areas responsible for fear, stress, and emotional regulation. Specific acupoints have been observed to calm or deactivate heightened amygdala responses, helping restore balance within the limbic system.

This connection helps explain why acupuncture may be effective for conditions involving emotional processing and memory.

Conditions Linked to Amygdala Function

An imbalanced amygdala can play a role in:

- Stress & anxiety
- PTSD
- Chronic pain
- Migraine headaches
- Emotional overwhelm in parenting & caregiving
- Emotional responses tied to memories
- Addiction-related behaviours
- And more

Easing Anxiety with Acupuncture & Mind–Body Practices

Acupuncture is a powerful tool for calming the nervous system. By stimulating specific points, it encourages the release of endorphins and serotonin — the body’s natural mood‑lifting chemicals.
In Chinese medicine, anxiety is supported through a whole‑body approach, including qigong, tai chi, gentle exercise, walking in nature, and meditation.

One simple technique you can try at home is foot acupressure.
Massaging the bottom of the foot — or rolling it over a tennis ball — activates an acupuncture point known as Bubbling Spring (Kidney 1). This point is deeply grounding and helps settle an overactive mind.

Breathwork is another essential tool for emotional and physical balance.

Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing, box breathing, and alternate nostril breathing can quickly shift the body into a calmer state.

Small practices, done consistently, create big change.
