Falls are more common than many people realize—but there’s a lot we can do to stay safe.

In Ontario, falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults, and about 1 in 3 seniors experiences a fall each year. Even more surprising, an older adult visits the emergency department due to a fall about every two minutes.

Many of these falls happen at home—on stairs, in the kitchen, or during everyday activities. The good news? Many falls are preventable!

Simple changes like adding extra lighting, clearing tripping hazards, installing handrails, or using mobility aids can make your home safer and help you stay independent.
