Points North Family Health Team/Machin Medical Group

Points North Family Health Team/Machin Medical Group We are a primary care organization located in Vermilion Bay Servicing the Municipality of Machin. The Points North Family Health Team is patient centred.

Patients will have access to a number of primary health care services from a variety of team members, including a family doctor. The team approach means service is relatively easy to access on a timely basis. Patients will be followed by a doctor or nurse practitioner, but depending on their clinical needs, they may be referred to other health care professionals within the Family Health Team. Patients may also self-refer to a Social Service worker. The team approach often allows for more time and discussion of health concerns than might be possible in a more traditional medical office setting. Also, patients will have access to additional services such as hypertension management programs, Diabetes and smoking cessation counseling.

There has been an increase in measles cases and exposures in Manitoba.

Check if you were exposed:
• All measles exposures in Manitoba are listed here: https://www.gov.mb.ca/health/publichealth/diseases/measles-exposures.html

What to do:
• If you were exposed and are not immune (not vaccinated or never had measles), watch for symptoms and limit contact with others.
• If you are traveling to areas where measles is a concern, make sure you are protected! Call your local NWHU office to check your immunization records or to get vaccinated.

After your appointment on the Screen for Life Coach, your screening results will be mailed to you and your primary care provider.

If your results are abnormal, a patient navigator (for breast and cervical screening) or your primary care provider (for colon screening) will contact you to guide you through the next steps.

If you don’t have a primary care provider and follow-up testing is needed, a representative from Ontario Health will reach out to help arrange further testing.

Machin Fire, and all of our neighbouring fire departments are volunteer departments. This means that the fire halls are not manned with firefighters ready to respond directly to an emergency when a 911 call comes through. Information regarding an emergency is relayed to members via a paging system.

When a 911 call is made, the communication centre takes down the specific information regarding the nature of the emergency and sends out a page to the appropriate fire department with the basic information about the call and the location. Firefighters then respond from home, work or wherever in the community they might be to the fire hall, change into their gear and respond in the appropriate emergency vehicle(s) for situation.

This means that firefighters are using their personal vehicles to get to the fire hall as quickly and safely as possible. To help facilitate this the Ontario Highway Traffic Act authorizes the use of green flashing lights for volunteer firefighters and advises drivers to yield the right of way the same as one would for an Ambulance, Fire Truck or Police vehicle with it's red lights flashing.

For life threatening medical emergencies and the fast developing nature of fires, time is critical for responding. If you see a vehicle with a green flashing light, or one that has a firefighter plate and has hazard lights activated, please pull over and stop to prevent delaying them from getting to the fire hall and responding to the emergency.
