If you’ve been told your thyroid labs are normal… though you feel anything but..

It could be time to look to the gut

The thyroid and the gut are so closely connected, it is impossible to address one without also taking a look at the other.

Symptoms including fatigue, brain fog, low mood & others commonly attributed to ‘low thyroid’ may actually be stemming from a suboptimal state in the gut

To improve your thyroid health, you will need to improve your gut health,

They go hand in hand.

But even more importantly, if both issues are not addressed in union, a vicious cycle could ensue

 because essentially,

Suboptimal gut health & poor digestion can lead to low thyroid

and

Low thyroid can lead to poor digestion & suboptimal gut health

Is your head spinning yet? 🤪

Its all connected!

Follow for gut health & thyroid tips!

And left me know below, have you considered the gut as a part of your thyroid healing journey?! 👇

More than 50% of all North Americans are not getting enough vitamin D (Especially in the northern hemisphere during the winter months, when the sun is so low)

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and hormone essential for optimal Thyroid & Gut health

And low levels are common in people with Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s & digestive issues

This comes as no surprise, as Vitamin D plays a key role in:
✔️ Reducing Inflammation & Autoimmunity
✔️Regulating the gut microbiome
✔️Supporting the intestinal barrier
✔️& More

Although in some cases, vitamin D supplementation is necessary to treat a deficiency, recent literature suggests that relying solely on supplementation alone as your only source of Vitamin D is less than ideal…

It seems once again, Diet & Lifestyle prevail!

☀️ Are you getting enough Vitamin D?

Here’s some ways to help improve!

And let me know in the comments ->

Do you enjoy eating any of these foods?!

(ps. I used to hate sardines.. but now I've found a way to love 'em!) 🐟

Have you wondered if you should be taking Vitamin D?

Especially in the northern hemisphere during the winter months when the sun is so low?

Though this seems like a good idea,

Relying solely on a supplement for all the Vitamin D you need, may be less than ideal..

Once again, it seems, diet & lifestyle always prevails 🏃‍♀️☀️🐟

Do you get enough of these nutrients in your diet to best support your thyroid health?

Together these vitamins and minerals are essential for:
🦋 thyroid hormone synthesis
🦋 conversion of thyroid hormone to its more active form (T4 -> T3)
🦋 action of thyroid hormone at the cellular level (allowing it to do its job)

Suboptimal levels could result in unresolved thyroid related symptoms, even despite treatment with thyroid replacement hormone

How to Boost:
✔️Eat a nutrient dense diet high in whole foods
✔️ Support gut health to improve nutrient absorption
✔️ Supplementation, if necessary, based on testing or clinical suspicion for deficiency

I’m so happy to see so many new faces around here 🙂 Time for a re-introduction, and an exciting announcement!

For those of you who have already been following along - Thank you

For anyone who is new here - Welcome!

I’m Sarah, a Pharmacist and Registered Holistic Nutritionist.

For years I struggled with an array of stubborn symptoms I did not have a solution for (even despite becoming a pharmacist!)

Eventually I found resolution & relief, in the place I least expected - my diet!

As I watched my thyroid symptoms resolve, my digestive symptoms disappear & my energy improve,

I became obsessed with learning everything I could about the connection between the foods I ate and I way I felt

It has been become my passion ever since to help others in the same way

I am excited to officially announce the launch of my 1:1 nutrition coaching services where I help women with thyroid and/or digestive issues find holistic solutions to reduce symptoms & restore energy naturally

(though if you do not exactly fit this, I am happy to help you too ;))

I understand how overwhelming it can be to balance a busy work life, personal life, family and your health. And how exhausting it is to struggle with symptoms you don’t have a solution for.

I hear you, I feel you, and I’m here to help -

I’ve opened up a few new spaces to work with me in 2023!

DM for more information on my nutrition coaching sessions, packages, pricing & offerings

And please share my info with anyone you know who may find this helpful. I’m on a mission to help as many people as I can!

Have you ever set a New Year's resolution to 'eat better'?

This is one of the most common ones I hear

Most people even repeat it year after year

Only to later ‘fail’

Because with New Year's resolutions there is always way to much pressure

And what does 'eating better' really even mean anyway?

I’ve never been a big fan of setting New Year's resolutions

But the new year still is a great time to reflect

And to instead set intentions

That are more positively focused & that help you to live in the way you want

While resolutions generally fail, Intentions ultimately foster the creation of the habits you need to achieve the outcomes you desire

But unsure where to start when it comes to your diet?

Even incorporating one of these 5 intentions will be sure to help you each much healthier this year!

I love eggnog at Christmas time!

Especially added to my coffee - Eggnog Latte. Yum!

But the store bought varieties are always way too sweet! (Not to mention they often have array of extra additives such artificial colours & flavours)

Here’s how I easily make my own eggnog at home (in the blender)

Easy is always the key for me!

If the thought of raw eggs is icky to you, the eggnog can be simmered on the stovetop until steaming (but not boiling), then enjoyed warm or cooled in the fridge before consuming

Let me know in the comments - How do you like your eggnog?

on its own 🍵
with coffee ☕️
with rum 🍹 🙃
not a fan 🥴

All this talk about PRObiotics .... but what about PREbiotics?

Prebiotics are the plant fibres that pass into your intestines mostly undigested. These compounds serve as food for the probiotics (or your good gut bacteria)

Both are essential to optimal gut health!

Though some sources are better than others, prebiotics are found in most plant foods including fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, legumes & grains.

Yet another reason to include a wide variety of fibre & plant based foods in your diet!
