And here we are again… 9 babies, some of which couldn’t or wouldn’t space out, even though we would be completely happy to have one birth every three days or so… 🤨 Two babies born at home, one at Royal Inland (due to a nursing shortage at VJH) and one born in the car on the way to the hospital. (all went well!) I guess that’s a 30% out of hospital rate ;-) As the year slowly wraps up, we have 8 more births left. Let’s hope they space out and we can all enjoy some quiet December moments 🕯️🎄

In BC, we screen for this rare disorder with the Newborn Screen which we offer to every family -also known as “heal prick” or “PKU” (although it should not be named that, as PKU is only one of the (original) disorders screened for).

Couple say screening for spinal muscular atrophy is crucial so children can get life-changing drugs.

Ten midwives in one room, for two days, with even more amazing labour and delivery nurses (from Kamloops and Kelowna) and family doctors, improving their emergency skills in the SOGC ALARM course 😍Our heads and hearts are full, and we’re grateful for our lovely colleague Jeanette Kleger for holding down the fort ❤️ (and catch three babies 😬) Shoutout to all the maternity care providers that still show up, improving their skills to be their safest selves for pregnant people, in a system that’s probably the scariest it has been in a long time 🙏

This is a great opportunity: Biodynamic Craniosacral is light touch therapy that works with the nervous system and subtle expressions of health in the body. Its gentle and safe approach is beneficial for babies. In this workshop,a student Craniosacral practitioner, with the guidance of a lead tutor, will give a treatment to your baby and you as a parent are included in the session by holding, feeding and soothing baby when needed. Help! One of our Mountain Midwifery families just lost everything in a devastating house fire. Luckily mom, dad and baby (born in April) just made it out in time, but lost everything, except for their important documents. Imagine grabbing your baby and running out- that's all they have. And they thank god for it every day!

They're living in a motel until August 1st, so most of this stuff needs to be stored somewhere until then (so we're also looking for a location to store these things)

We are hoping you can help and donate:

- baby clothes 3-6 months
- swaddle blankets
- crib
- stroller
- baby bath tub
- baby swing
- pack 'n play
- car seat
- gift cards (they didn't ask for this, but for those that don't have donations and want to help, money or gift cards would be so helpful. They're currently buying groceries at Freshco as they live in a motel close by at the moment)

Dad lost his phone in the fire, their car also got destroyed.
If you have an old but workable phone and want to donate it, please let us know!
