The art of Scootering 💁‍♀️

Scooter boards are a fan favourite tool in pediatric therapy for so many reasons, but here’s a few reasons why we like incorporating scooters in session:

1: They are FUN. Kids learn and practice skills more when it’s fun (so do adults).

2: In physiotherapy, scooters are great for practicing a number of things: alternating leg motions, sitting posture, whole body strengthening and endurance, vestibular input and proprioception, push/pull motions, balance - the list goes on!

3: Some children crave movement and use it as a form of regulation between practicing other skills in session.

4: Scooter boards provide opportunities for modelling functional language like ‘go’, ‘push’, ‘stop’ and encourages joint engagement in speech therapy.

Our speechies fighting the urge to call their high school teachers and say they in fact *get paid* to talk all day. 😎

May is Speech and Hearing month! 🗣️

For the next 30 days our goal is to spread more knowledge and awareness around communication health, which means we will share more about our wonderful SLP’s, conditions and concerns commonly addressed in speech therapy, types of communication, evidence-based tips and strategies, neuro-affirming activities to try, etc.

Stay tuned, and make sure to high-five your SLP and Audiology friends this month for everything they do! 🙏

When your intrusive thoughts win and you work in a pediatric clinic. 💁‍♀️

Hope everyone starts their day with a laugh, and has a great week!

The Silk Swing in Action! 🎬

We love incorporating our silk swings in session — physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy too!

PT uses it for:
• Grip, core, back extensors, upper and lower extremity strengthening - pretty much the whole body!
• Balance, vestibular and oculomotor training. 👀
• Combined with physical literacy skills like catching.

OT uses it for:
• Regulation and vestibular input.
• Deep pressure, proprioceptive and sensory input.
• Movement breaks. 🏃🏽‍♂️

SLP uses it for:
• Modeling functional language (e.g. all done, in/out, spin, swing, stop/go).
• Building joint engagement. 👥
• Practicing speech sounds (e.g. /s/ for swing).

And just as important — to learn and have FUN in an inclusive & neuro-affirming space! 🤩

Breaks as a pediatric OT 🫧

Regulation looks different for everyone - some like blowing bubbles, others might like deep pressure, tight squeezes or hugs, rocking, swinging, spinning etc. It’s not a one-size fits all solution and some kids may use many forms of regulation.

Have questions? Our occupational therapists are experts at helping your child discover their sensory preferences and build their regulation toolbox to manage any situation.

Come say hi! 👋

Spring break is over and somehow, someway, our bookings and schedules keep running smoothly! 👌

(FYI we’d be lost without our Office Manager Niki)

Hope everyone is having a great first week back into school routine!

Our Vernon clinic is moving! As of Monday, November 3, 2025, all of our services will take place at our new location at 2801 28th street (down the block from the public library).

We are extremely excited to move into this larger space with more treatment rooms and a HUGE gym space for groups, gross motor development, sensory play, and tons of FUN!!

We have absolutely loved being in our Easthill character home for the past 5 years, and will miss the "red house", but we are absolutely bursting at the seams.

We can't wait to welcome all of our families and young pals into our new, larger space!!
