Umbrella works with individuals, and their loved ones, struggling with mental health and substance use issues.

Our services include outreach, peer support, counselling, groups, education, harm reduction and recovery housing.

Thanks to TELUS , our workers Rebecca & Evan were able to spearhead a new community education project--namely geared towards secondary schools in the Victoria, Sidney, and Saanich regions.

During the 2024/2025 school year, Rebecca & Evan did 30 presentations at 8 different schools(!) Not only did they promote what the Umbrella Society has to offer, but they shared their own experiences with experimenting with substances, addiction, and eventually recovery.

This project gave us the opportunity to educate, discuss, and ultimately destigmatize addiction recovery.

Thank you to all the students and faculty for hosting us, and hope you had a good summer! 🌞

Taking advantage of the end of summer! Current and former residents from our second and third stage houses (Foundation, Potter, and Cooper) gathered at Esquimalt Gorge Park for a BBQ in the sun (at least I hope there was sun).
Together they raised a whopping $350 for the Umbrella Society!

Last week we had the pleasure of having Brae Carnes present a sensitivity training session focused on understanding the basics of gender and LGBTQ2S+ identities.

✨Brae brings over 10 years of experience in LGBTQ2S+ activism, along with a professional background as a hairstylist and owner of Role-Play Hair Studio--a trans-owned, queer-operated salon in Victoria.
✨With additional experience working in outreach and community support, Brae offers grounded, practical insight into how to apply this knowledge in everyday life and work.
✨Her session is designed to build foundational knowledge and comfort around Gender Identity and LGBTQ2S+ identities, with space for questions and open dialogue.

Weekend download!
Had such a great time basking in the heat and shine of Soberfest. Incredible musicians, talented artists, Josh selfies, community partners, and sober pride.
