April showers do bring May flowers!
Many changes happened in the last week of April--we had to put our registered groups on a hiatus (Comfortably UN-Numb & Women's Group), which really hit us all hard.
But our passionate staff and leadership worked to fill some gaps with more drop-in groups!
New to us is the AA Big Book Step Study, a drop-in Women's Support Group, along with promoting the She Recovers Victoria chapter!
Everyone loves a good calendar...

What a community we have. April marked the loud voices honoring the lives silenced. An intimate memorial, a passionate rally, and a thought-provoking art installation.
All done together, with such respect and care.
Thank you to those who put in their time and energy into ending the stigma.

As the warmer weather comes out to play, we understand that schedules can get busy, and a full-fledged registered group might not always be in the cards. In the spirit of continuing to make recovery resources accessible to all, we're now hosting an AA Big Book Step Study drop-in group on Tuesday evenings at 7pm.

These meetings help A.A. newcomers understand the program while providing long-term members with ongoing insight into recovery principles.
No experience necessary, completely drop-in, come on in!

Call or text the office if you have any questions!

On Wednesday April 8 , Louise and Rebecca had the great pleasure in taking part of the 3rd annual Wellness Fair at Vic High . This all-day event was put on by some amazing students who invited a variety of organizations to participate which included:

Vancouver Island voices for eating disorders, Ymind, Gender generations project and SO many more amazing resources!

The ladies were able to connect with around 1000 youth from grades 8-12 sharing the importance of reducing stigma when navigating addiction and recovery services. The youth shared their own words of encouragement ( see in slides!) for those who may be struggling in silence.

Thanks for the delicious lunch provided by and coffee and tea from 😀

See you again next year !

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Steven Vickets on Feb 11,2026.

Steven was an incredible worker and an exceptional friend to so many. His heart was pure and he took pride in and loved supporting others in whichever way he could. Steven thrived when working as a Peer support worker here at Umbrella. He created engaging programs for residents at our sites like the 'gardening group' at Tiny Town, the 'walking group' at Muncey place and ensured there were always fun games days as well! Steven also devoted his years to working with Victorias senior population though Silver Threads and Amica house amongst others. He was absolutely excellent at bringing fun and light to his work for his clients and his colleagues.

Steven loved fitness, modeling and acting. He loved spending time with his family, and most especially his nephews. Steven is a true testament of someone who never gave up. When the going got tough ...he would ask for support. We will never forget his humour , his vibrancy and his love and adventure to always trying new things. We already miss him immensely. We at the Umbrella Society send our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences to all of his family during this challenging time.

Steven's celebration of life will be held at :
