Our services include outreach, peer support, counselling, groups, education, harm reduction and recovery housing.

"The Dollar A Day Foundation has a simple mission: to bridge the gap between the funding and the need for frontline mental health and addictions programs across Canada."

While The Dollar A Day Foundation is based 7000 km away in St. John's, Newfoundland, their reach spans coast to coast. This year, they have granted us a whopping $10,000 (!!), 100% of which will go to frontline workers in the addiction and mental health fields.

"Good people need our help today, and effective programs and program partners exist".
The Umbrella Society has been here for 25 years, and we are so grateful to be able to continue our work thanks to foundations like these.

GIVING TUESDAY!
Meet Jeff! He is really extraordinary. Jeff is humble yet SO full of gratitude. Jeff's positive attitude and excitement for life usually enters a room before he does.
He works hard on his recovery and has come a long way!
Earlier this year he took a 3-week long solo pilgrimage through Portugal and Spain. A trip that dreams are made of and were truly possible because of Jeff's hard work on his own recovery and the healing that comes with helping others. Pretty amazing!
Jeff decided that this year and at this time in his life he wants to give back. He is choosing to give back by donating $1000.00 of his own hard earned cash to The Umbrella Society. So naturally, we wanted to know why!

For those in recovery, exiting residential treatment directly to independent living can be unsafe, for many reasons.
Chief among these is the fact that these individuals need a safe and supportive space to practice the tools of recovery they have just learned.
This is widely considered an essential foundation for long-term recovery.
Our two houses are for male residents in recovery. We are actively seeking to re-launch our women's recovery housing program.

Well, we’ve made the move to a simple Brita filter, so that means we’re parting with a Primo water cooler dispenser.

The Angels!
What a wonderful, tireless, inspiring group of women. They graciously support local organizations, and Umbrella is so grateful to be one of them.
They not only donate to both our Women's Group and Parents' Group, they also give a monthly food donation to the residents at our third stage house.
At the annual Angels/Umbrella luncheon back in October, Housing Manager Erik, Outreach/Women's Group facilitator/Fundraiser Rebecca, and Executive Director Blake presented the tangible progress that the Angels contribute to, shared the good that Umbrella does every year, and showed why we are a worthy organization to continue to support.
Good food, good people, and good talks. Thank you, as always, to the Angels!

Sometimes it helps to get out of your own head, even for an hour. Umbrella has snagged an expressive arts therapy practicum student offering relaxed individual sessions where you can use art, writing, movement, and music to shift focus, release tension, and reconnect with yourself -- no skills or experience required.
