The Umbrella Society has been around for 25 years, and while we're familiar in the recovery and mental health fields, we are still unknown to many folks.
Spreading awareness (online & in-person) allows our staff to support more people.
The more that know we are here, the more those who are struggling can access support.

Tuesday, Oct 28th from 1:30 - 3:30pm, our doors are open for anyone looking for help with the following...
-Birth Certificates for all Canadian provinces and territories
-BC Services Card & BCID
-Secure Status Card (SCIS) (renewal/replacement only)
-Booking ICBC appointments
-Mailing Address for applicants

SALT SPRING ISLAND - More people in need of affordable and supportive housing on Salt Spring Island will have a new place to call home with the opening of a new building on Drake Road.

Located at 161 Drake Rd., the building includes 32 supportive homes for adults who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and four affordable homes for who can live independently.

Thank you to our partners, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Capital Regional District and Lookout Housing & Health Society, for coming .

We also thank the Umbrella Society for Addictions & Mental Health which has operated the temporary supportive housing at 154 King’s Lane for the last several years. Most residents will move over from that housing into these new homes, then the housing will be removed.

Umbrella Society's School Tour '25 is off to a start with Stelly's Secondary School.
It was a full house in what would have normally been a pre-calc math class 👀
50 grade 12-ers asked great questions, were a pleasure to hang with, and marked Umbrella Scott's first presentation!

~NEW GROUP~

Introducing the Men's Support Group. Long in the making, now finally confirmed. Facilitated by Umbrella staff, this is a drop-in group for anyone who identifies as male looking for support in mental health and substance use recovery.
Group will be hosted at our office at
2675 Bridge St., every Friday evening from 6-7:30pm.
The first session will be on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Yesterday our Team Lead Jake visited Manager Barb at the South Island Alano Club in Langford.

The South Island Alano Club is a gathering place for individuals in recovery from behavioral or substance addiction. They are a safe and welcoming space for individuals, their families, and the broader recovery community.

Their facility provides:
-A regular meeting space for 12-step and other recovery groups
-A supportive environment for Step work and personal growth
-A Clean and sober social activities for individuals and families in recovery

It is a community grounded in connection, mutual support, and shared experience. It's a safe and welcoming environment where people can come together not only for meetings, but also to build lasting friendships, find encouragement during difficult times, and celebrate the everyday victories of recovery.

Our Outreach Services need you !

Did you know that the Umbrella Society relies on donations to run ?

Specifically, our Outreach service.

This is how we started as an organization, and this will always be what we are best at! Our outreach workers meet folks where they are at.

An outreach worker is someone who walks clients through the recovery world. Navigating the system can be challenging at the best of times…never mind when someone feels they are at their lowest point. An outreach worker can help provide ongoing support and guidance to folks in all stages of their recovery . Outreach provides a continuum of care to those recently leaving hospital, detox, treatment, corrections and everywhere in between. Our services are for everyone. Thanks for your ongoing support !
