We are the only studio on the island that trains teachers in both 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training and a 500 Hour Yoga Therapy Programs. We offer a wide variety of classes, ranging from Yin, Flow, Core Strength, 50+ Yoga, Gentle Hatha, Backcare, Vijnana Yoga and the Tensegrity Repair Series. Graduates of our Programs teach low-cost Hatha/ Flow and Therapeutic Yoga classes at our studio. We have an extensive mentorship program for Yoga Therapy Graduates, with teaching placements in heath-care organizations, businesses and local non-profits. Ajna has a large community of Graduates teaching all over the world. Our new studio in Oak Bay welcomes everyone, particularly those interested in a therapeutic approach

Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is a somatic modality that has been proven as an effective adjunctive treatment for psychological trauma.

As we practice feeling and breathing with awareness (interoception), the neural networks in our brain that may be damaged by trauma have an opportunity to reconnect. Although TCTSY uses hatha yoga forms, the emphasis is not on the external expression or appearance (i.e. doing it “right”). Rather, the focus is on the internal experience of the participant (interoception).

With this approach, the power resides within the individual, not the TCTSY facilitator (TCTSY-F). By focusing on the felt sense of the body to inform choice-making, TCTSY allows participants to restore their connection of mind and body and cultivate a sense of agency that is often compromised as a result of trauma. We strive to make TCTSY accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or experience. Each participant will be asked to complete a short individual intake call. It is recommended that participants are either in ongoing therapy or
have another outside support network.

This is going to be an incredible training! Brand new for fall 2025, Shamini is leading our Online Yoga Nidra module.

This is an elective module as part of our Yoga Therapy training, but it can also be taken on its own. Registered as an APD course with IAYT, you can also get CEC credits with the Yoga Alliance.

Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice to support deep relaxation. It has been used in modern times to support folks moving through anxiety, depression, and trauma. Yoga Nidra offers a unique opportunity for profound rest and rejuvenation. This module offers a balance of teaching, personal practice, and group reflection, ensuring participants can absorb both theoretical and experiential aspects of Yoga Nidra. In this module you will learn:
– the origins of yoga nidra
– the physiological and psychological effects of deep relaxation and the role of the nervous system.
– the role of the Koshas in Yoga Nidra.
– the power of positive affirmations during Yoga Nidra to support personal growth and transformation.
– how Yoga Nidra can be adapted to support those working through trauma, including how it can create a safe container for healing
