Staff Feature: Adam Janveaux – Adam is our newest employee working as the current Indigenous wellness coordinator, previously a practicum student with AVI. Adam recently completed the Crisis Response and Mental Health Worker Certificate Program at Discovery Community College. He brings deep empathy, strong connection skills, and lived experience that strengthens our team.

Birdie Frost – Birdie is the newest (and furriest) member of the CR Harm Reduction family! She owns Afton Frost, the current Harm Reduction support, and has quickly become a team favorite. Birdie provides “compression therapy” and endless affection to staff and participants alike—and has unofficially adopted Adam as her own.

Join us afterward at our 40th Anniversary display for a movie screening of Meet Us Where We’re At in the lower level of the Bay Centre at 7pm. VAC in partnership with Visual AIDS (NY) presents, Day With(Out) Art screening of newly-commissioned films by HIV+ artists, Meet Us Where We’re At, featuring: Kenneth Indongesit Usoro (Nigeria), Hoàng Thái (Vietnam), Gustavo Vinagre & Vinicius Couto (Brazil/Portugal), Camilo Tapia Flores (Chile/Brazil), Camila Flores-Fernández (Peru/Germany), José Luis Cortés (Puerto Rico).

This year, AVI Health and Community Services proudly celebrates 40 years of making a difference — 40 years of compassion, advocacy, and community care across Vancouver Island. From our beginnings as the AIDS Vancouver Island Society to our evolution into a broader health and community services organization, AVI has stood at the forefront of harm reduction, health equity, and social justice.

AVI South Island is very grateful for our ongoing relationship with the Indigenous Perspectives Society (IPS). Their guidance helps us uncover colonial patterns, interrupt harms, and nurture more relational, less colonial practices.
