A few weeks ago, something really special happened.

Emerald was voted #1 Best Skincare Clinic and #1 Best Cosmetic Treatment Centre (Non-Surgical) in Best of the City 2025.

We’ve been nominated six times and have won five before, but this was the first time we took home the top spot in two categories — and it still feels a little surreal.

That morning, I found a dime. A friend once told me that dimes can be signs from the other side — little messages that someone you love is near. My grandma always believed in me and in this spa. The moment I saw that dime, I felt her with me. I carried that feeling with me all day.

As many of you know, this past year hasn’t been easy. Like many small businesses, we’ve moved through change, growth, tough decisions, and some deeply reflective moments. There were wins, there were doubts — but through it all, I never stopped believing in what we’re creating at Emerald.

We show up every day with care, with intention, and with a deep belief that what we offer isn’t just about skin or services. It’s about how we make people feel — safe, supported, and cared for in their own skin.

Meet Dj, Sugaring Specialist, and the newest member of the EDS Team!

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dj relocated to Victoria in 2019 and has been part of the beauty and wellness industry since 2011. After graduating with a diploma in Cosmetology, she spent over a decade working as both a hairstylist and barber, building strong client relationships along the way.

In 2018, Dj expanded her skill set and began offering body sugaring—a gentle and effective method of hair removal that quickly became her specialty. With a focus on detail and client comfort, Dj takes pride in helping guests feel confident and cared for with every treatment.

What is sugaring?

Sugaring is a gentle and effective way for hair removal. Sugar paste is made up of all-natural ingredients, consisting entirely of sugar, water, and lemons. There are no harsh chemicals involved. Sugar is applied at body temperature and will not damage or rip the skin, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin. The hair is removed in the same direction as hair growth, which means less breakage & fewer ingrowns. With regular maintenance, hair grows back thinner and sparser over time.
