We're a group of people with an avid interest in all the needle arts. We'd love to have you come stitch with us! Whether you're an intermediate stitcher or just wanting to get started, the Embroiderers’ Guild of Victoria (EGV) invites you to join us at a monthly meeting. Share your skills and creativity within a friendly, structured group. Whatever technique you're interested in - there's someone in the Guild that shares it. We have members that are interested in crewel, canvas work, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, smocking, counted thread work, cross stitch, surface embroidery, quilting – literally anything done with a threaded needle. Meetings:
We hold monthly that start with a short business meeting, a "show and share" time, and either a speaker or a program related to the needle arts. Events:
We hold regular events, activities, and education workshops. We have several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that look to expand members' skills in the following areas:
Sampler Saturday (samplers)
Rapt Threads (explore textile art with a modern take)
Canvas SIG (canvaswork)
Lace SIG (bobbin lace)

Guild members are involved in:
- sponsoring prizes at the Saanich Fair
- producing embroidered pieces for a variety of charitable organizations
- conducting workshops for Brownies and Guides
- the “Wee Care” outreach project at the Victoria General Hospital

This absolutely stunning table mat is worked in the technique of Orvieto lace. Orvieto is a form of crochet lace from Orvieto, Italy. It's been around since 1907 and resembles Irish crochet with motifs worked separately and then joined by a fine chain stitch.

Image is from the book: Il Merletto di Orvieto by the Lions Club Orvieto, 2017. The piece is privately owned by Franco Barbabella.

This is "West Coast Moments: Denizens of Drury" by quilt artist Carol Seeley.

Carol writes that "while traveling though the myriad of islands off the Pacific West Coast of Canada, a fleeting appearance of the Great Blue Heron in the Muirhead Islets in Drury Inlet is a moment in time worth remembering."

This is Queen Victoria - a canvaswork design by noted embroidery artist Gay Ann Rogers.

Gay Ann has created a series of Queen designs and her portrait of Queen Victoria is the fourth and final Queen in her series.

I think you'd agree that Gay Ann creates a beautiful face - something quite challenging to do in canvaswork.
