Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees - VICCIR

Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees - VICCIR VICCIR assists immigrant and refugees who are suffering from the psychological and emotional wounds

Many immigrants, especially refugees, have suffered from overwhelming experiences, including loss of country, loss of loved ones, and exposure to violence. At VICCIR, we understand the complexity and unpredictability of the effects of such experiences. Our professional counsellors have the tools to guide clients towards healing. Their overall objectives are to help each client make sense of her or his experiences and emotions, increase self-mastery and resilience, and restore a sense of meaning to life, relationships and membership in the community. The Centre offers a variety of counselling programs, each eight to ten weeks in length. A fee is established in the first session, though no one will be turned away because of an inability to pay.

VICCIR is so grateful to our sponsor .cafe for their generous donations supporting our Brain-Body Connection mental health workshops. During this workshop, our participants participated in crafts, hands-on activities, and discussions about brain anatomy, stress, and how substances impact the brain.

Our participants loved the Taiwanese style fried chicken, kimchi, and dumplings that kept them satisfied and engaged throughout the workshop. We are so grateful to AsUsual cafe, a local, Canadian-owned business, that has made this event possible!

Our mental health workshops will continue on Sundays 3-5 pm and Mondays 4:30-6:30 pm in March at UVic Clearihue Room A207, and all youth ages 16-29 are invited to join us. Sign up here: surveymonkey.ca/r/yhcasurvey
