✨ Imagine a justice system built on learning, education and restoration.

Right now, thousands of people are caught in cycles of incarceration wherein restoration for themselves and their communities has no clear path forward. But what if our justice system provided a different way?

On October 8th, we invite you to Unlocking Potential: Literacy, Education & the Criminal Justice System to hear from Professor Benjamin Perrin β€” UBC Law professor and author of several books including 'Indictment: The Criminal Justice System on Trial'.

Professor Perrin will share a bold vision for how Canada can move from punitive models of justice to restorative practices that create safer communities, uphold human rights, and transform lives through the power of education and opportunity.

This event is for anyone who believes in change β€” educators, advocates, community leaders, and everyday people who know we can do better.

πŸ‘‰ Spaces are limited! Register now and be part of the conversation: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf_TiOh1wsBQoDetO5aUNvkxZBdyhIWYQyrZgbvfhpzGIdgcg/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=118096250971955376232

People are more than a verdict.

A court ruling does not define someone but it does give us as a society, an opportunity to lift that person up and out of circumstances that lead them there. Education is more than a tool to navigate life - it is a means of freedom.

Get your ticket now to join us for a one-day, community dialogue forum bringing together voices from across the criminal justice system, education sector, Indigenous communities, advocacy organizations, and post-secondary institutions to explore the critical links between incarceration, literacy, and equitable access to education in BC.

🏫"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela 🏫

Canada is better and safer when it acts upon ways to restore harm rather than punish it. Education is a powerful means to create a society and a country where people have opportunity to do what is good and healthy.

This is the heart of our October 8th Event. Join us to hear from some leaders within education, the criminal justice system, advocacy groups and hear from those with lived experiences how education became a means of restoration beyond incarceration.

Join us and be a part a crucial part of creating health, safe and inclusive communities for all people.

A lack of education is not the fault of a person but lie within the barriers that inhibit them. Studies have demonstrated that education not only provides more opportunities for individuals upon release, but it decreases the chances of more crime being committed.

Education is opportunity. Education is safety.

Education can be a lifeline for those who have only known prison, revealing new pathways they may never have imagined. Reducing a person’s choice to commit crime not only builds a healthier, safer community, but also restores the dignity that society once sought to discard.
