Thank you to the more than 50 Victoria Hospice volunteers who joined us for an afternoon of community spirit, great food and heartfelt appreciation in the stunning Sequoia Room at McCall Gardens on Sunday! Our treasured volunteers contribute year-round on the Inpatient Unit, at our fundraising events, in our admin offices and assisting with group grief and bereavement workshops at our Community Support Centre. Everyone has their own "why" they volunteer at Hospice, and it was wonderful to hear so many volunteers share their stories and celebrate each other along with Victoria Hospice staff.

And a huge shout out to McCall Gardens Funeral and Cremation Service for donating their time, gorgeous spaces and care on such a beautiful spring day. There were hugs, compassion and even a few tears of gratitude.

"What impressed me most wasn't just the medical excellence, but the profound compassion shown by every staff member and volunteer. The doctors would sit and talk with me for as long as I needed without checking their watches. And the nurses found deep fulfillment in making someone's last days better while supporting their loved ones through one of life's most challenging transitions. Volunteers were a constant presence and comfort to us." ~ Susan McMillan, Heritage Circle Member

TWO WEEKS TODAY!
No Fixed Address: The White Cart Memorial
Thursday, February 19 at 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

No Fixed Address: The White Cart Memorial is a powerful and intimate documentary that sheds light on a deeply overlooked aspect of the homelessness crisis: people’s grief following the death of someone they care about. Through the voices and stories of individuals living with unstable housing, the film explores what it means to grieve without a house, and how loss echoes through a community already struggling to survive.

Join the UVic Institute on Aging & Lifelong Health, BC Centre for Palliative Care, Victoria Hospice, Island Health, and Kelowna Homelessness Research Centre, for the first showing of the film in Victoria, BC, followed by a panel discussion. Get your tickets at the link in comments ā¬‡ļø

Our Story

Victoria Hospice is a registered charity that has provided end-of-life care focused on palliative treatment since 1980. Our nurses, counsellors, spiritual caregivers, physicians, and trained volunteers provide comfort for the patient and support for the family, rather than a cure for progressive and life-limiting illness.

Care is offered in patients’ homes, within our 17-bed in-patient unit, and as specific medical consultation to patients in other health care facilities. Over 300 trained volunteers provide companionship and support. Victoria Hospice offers bereavement support to families for up to one year following a death.

Roughly 50 percent of Victoria Hospice's annual operating costs are funded through community donations. Funds are raised from a variety of sources, including private donations, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events.
