Elements of Health is delighted to be a proud sponsor of the Healing Hearts Run again this year.

It is both tender and an honour to offer our support and to walk alongside our patients who have experienced painful challenges in growing their families.

Stephanie and Chris struggled personally with infertility as well, which makes being the Co-Chair of the Pacific Perinatal Foundation (PPF) something Stephanie cares deeply about.

PPF provides compassionate, integrated support for individuals and families who experience reproductive trauma—such as early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, infertility, and other difficult pregnancy-related events.

PPF services include financial assistance for counselling, peer-led gatherings, mindfulness-based group programs, and public awareness initiatives to help reduce isolation and promote healing.

The Healing Hearts Run (HHR) brings together families, care providers, and allies to honour loss, raise awareness, and foster connection.

Join our EOH team on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at Royal Roads University (Victoria) from 11am-1pm.

Choose between a 2km or 5km run/walk to connect together in the community and help raise critical funding that assists bereaved individuals and families throughout their journey of healing.

Are you experiencing low back pain that just won’t go away on its own? If so, you are not alone. Did you know that low back pain is common and affects 60-80% of people at some point during their lifetime?

There is strong evidence to support physiotherapy for the management of low back pain. A combination of exercises and manual therapy can help to manage or improve the symptoms associated with acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain.

I recommend starting your day with a quick and easy morning mobility routine to get your spine moving.

Wig wags: Lie on your back with knees bent and gently rock your knees side to side within pain free limits. Repeat 10-30 times.
Pelvic tilts: Lie on your back with knees bent and gently rock your pelvis forward and back by flattening your back towards the bed and then arching it away from the bed. Repeat 10-30 times.
Knees to chest: Lie on your back and then hug your knees towards your chest. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat 1-3 times.

Do you have pain in your low back, hips, thighs, or pelvis during pregnancy? Here are 5 things you can do to manage your pelvic girdle pain:

Wear a maternity support belt when walking or engaging in physical activity
Place a pillow between your legs when sleeping and rolling over in bed
Go pool walking or swimming to take pressure off your joints
Try to keep your legs together and symmetrical when standing and changing positions
Do strengthening exercises that target the muscles that attach to your pelvis

The following 3 exercises can help to reduce the symptoms associated with pelvic girdle pain:

1. Seated pelvic tilts: Sit on a chair or exercise ball with your legs symmetrical and your feet on the floor. Gently arch your back and rock your pelvis forward. Next, tighten your stomach muscles to round your back and tilt your pelvis backward. Hold for 3-5 seconds for 10 repetitions and repeat throughout the day as needed.
2. Isometric adductor squeeze: Place a pillow or rolled up towel between your knees. Squeeze the pillow to activate your inner thigh muscles. Hold for 3-5 seconds for 10 repetitions and repeat throughout the day as needed.
3. Isometric hip abduction: Place your hands on the outside of your thighs near your knees. Attempt to move your knees out to the sides as you resist the movement with your hands. Hold for 3-5 seconds for 10 repetitions and repeat throughout the day as needed.

As the holiday season winds down, one more holiday tradition remains: pondering those pesky New Year’s resolutions. It’s interesting that this tradition continues when research says only 8% of people actually achieve them!

One of the problems with resolutions is that they can create effort mode, obsession with outcomes and notions of success and failure.

The hazard of expectations on specific outcomes is that we live in a world where internal and external conditions constantly change, which can derail even the most well prepared and tenacious efforts. Those on a fertility journey know this all too well. Even when everything is perfect our desired outcome is still not always within our control.

It’s a subtle shift in language, but perhaps we might think in terms of intentions rather than resolutions. While resolutions are firm and hard, intentions are more flexible. They’re about where and how we direct our attention, finding that sweet spot between effort and patience. They’re both being mindful.

An intention shouldn’t be confused with a goal. It’s not something you attach an expectation or evaluation to, it’s something you want to align with in life. It’s an aim, a purpose or attitude you are committed to embodying. It’s how you want to show up in the world, and most importantly, with kindness and compassion, both toward yourself, and in relationship with others.

An interview with meditation teacher, Jack Kornfield resonates with me. He invites us to pause, and “sit quietly for a moment… To rest our heart and ask: what is my best intention, my most noble aspiration?” If you quiet yourself, your heart will answer. The answer could be simple. “I vow to be kind, no matter what”. When the answer comes, write it down. When you feel lost, or confused, take a breath, and remember that vow”.

Wishing you gentle connection with your heart and the possibility of nurturing well-being, and the simple every day moments of your life throughout the new year. swipe for upcoming mindfulness program dates with Stephanie and register via the link in the bio at
