Acuity Acupuncture

Acuity Acupuncture Owen Parnell is an Acupuncturist and Visual Artist from Victoria, BC. I love the purposefulness and the creativity of this work.

I grew up in Victoria, and have had lived experience of eastern healing arts since childhood. In my early 20’s, fresh out of art school, I enrolled to study acupuncture, as I figured it would be good to know and apply to the rest of my life. Near the end of my studies, my daughter was born, and I began the hustle of a budding clinician and entrepreneur. Six years later I feel confident to meet wha

t comes, and help a broad spectrum of people in reaching their health goals. I view patient comfort and trust as an essential element of a good treatment, and modify my approach to suit the unique physiology, temperament and circumstances of each patient. I can be gentle or strong in my methods depending on what suits you best. My ultimate goal is to improve my patients quality of life as much as possible. I want you to be liberated in a sense, from physical pain, restricted movement, self imposed limitations, or whatever it is that ails you. If you tell me you hate your job, I will encourage you to consider your options. I employ the classical approaches of acupuncture, massage, cupping, guasha, conversation and counsel, lifestyle recommendations. I also use some tools not so common to acupuncturists, Laser therapy AKA PBMT (photobiomodulation therapy), and toksen (thai hammer massage). Outside of the clinic, I am blessed to co-parent my young daughter. I have a background in visual arts, and maintain a slow but steady visual art and martial arts practice. It’s an honour and privilege to be of service in this way. Thank you for considering me as a helper on your path.

Hello friends!
To keep pace with the season, I'm stepping into more fall shifts, both at Refined Health and TAOH
Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in Esquimalt,
Tuesdays and Thursdays in Cobble Hill

If you're looking to sink back into a good fall rhythm or want a little assistance in maintaining a healthy immune system for the colder months, schedule a session!

Outside of treating aches and pains, acupuncture can also be very helpful to reduce stress, modulate mood, and benefit seasonal affective disorder.

You can schedule a free consultation to learn more about what you can expect, or jump right in and book an initial session

I also integrate Laser therapies into my sessions to further benefit cell and tissue health, promote healing and reduce neuropathies and pain.

Atlast, my bike is looking fit for an acuPUNKturist.
Not sharp enough to draw blood, but to make a point.
I'd wanted to fill these holes in my fenders for ages. Finally found something that fits.

This post has nothing to do with Acupuncture, but everything to do with having fun, which is kinda the ultimate goal from my perspective.

I hope you are having a liberated summer!
It's that time of year where work often steps aside to make way for leisure and play. So much of what I work to treat in the clinic originates from what we might call stress, qi constraint, or liver qi stagnation. We may also call it an emotional blockage or some sort of somatic holding. Essentially, it's what happens when we don't allow ourselves to be as we are, feel our feelings, speak our needs, or face our truths. It's what happens when our dreams and aspirations are prematurely dammed by walls of practicality and normalcy.

If you are finding that your mind and body are not in the state of ease needed to truly step into the state you want to be in, I encourage you to come into the clinic and get things moving. Summers at the clinic are characteristically slow as most of us prioritize having fun, and hopefully, we're feeling too good to even be thinking about treatment.

Since there are plenty of open spots these days, I am offering a promotion I have never offered before. Make a follow-up booking before the end of august, and it will be 33% off. It's a pleasure to be of service. If I can offer any support at this time, know that I am happy to.

PS, gyroscopes are fun

I tried tie-dying my clinic linens. Some worked better than others, though generally I feel very please with the results!
Have you ever received a treatment with tie-dyed linens? If you haven't been to the clinic in the past month probably not. :)
Thanks to online tutorials from chandye.com I was able to to this. It ended up being a bit more laborious than I had hoped, as I have over 20 sets of sheets. I just gotta get a bit more dye to do the face cradle covers and then we'll complete the set!

I hope to integrate and align my professional practice with who I am as a person a little more than I have in the past. I think at one point I felt a need to put up a "professional" facade to make the "right" impression, and that doesn't feel so authentic.
I recognize the merit in shifting gears, and certainly maintaining clear intent, conscientious communication and focus throughout the session. I suppose I'm thinking of professionalism in part as simply being proficient in what I offer, and doing my best to ensure that each treatment is as helpful as possible, while being true to myself and thereby to you as well. I think the treatments will be similar, but the aesthetics perhaps a little more funky and playful

Our Story

Owen Parnell is an Acupuncturist born raised and educated here in Victoria, BC. Owen has studied D**g Han Korean Acupuncture, Qi Gong, and Martial Arts Since 2011. His interest in healing Qi Gong is what lead him to enroll in Oshio College Acupuncture Program. Though his introduction to the eastern healing arts was his mother’s practice of Jin Shin Do Pain relief, emotional stress and it’s physical manifestations are Owen's forte, and he produces affirming results in a broad range of conditions. He uses martial arts and meditation as tools for sharpening his awareness. This improves his ability to provide pleasant treatments with great results. Owen practices free hand and where applicable, shallow needle technique. He is trained in the NADA (National Acupuncture Detox Association)’s 5 ear points protocol. This simple protocol helps balance the body and manage stress. He often use it in conjunction with body treatments. Owen doesn’t view acupuncture treatment as a magic bullet for healing the body, but a tool to help the body to heal itself. We all know our bodies have amazing self-healing abilities. Sometimes our bodies are just faced with circumstances that they can’t work out on their own. In the treatment room, Owen integrates massage and acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, TDP therapy, and range of motion exercises. Having seen how well different modalities can work together, he is excited to ally with your current health professionals, to further benefit your quality of life. Outside of Owen’s work as a healer, he is blessed to live with his wife and young daughter. He has a background in visual arts, mostly drawing and painting, but also sculpture and graphic design. He maintains a variety of hobbies, including taichi, qi gong, iaido, kendo, juggling, and percussion.
