I haven't been posting on this page for quite some time, but that's about to change.

I continue to treat "IBS" and a litany of other gastrointestinal disorders on a daily basis in practice. Why the quotation around IBS? Well, that's because IBS is only a label diagnosis that doesn't aid the patient one bit. There is always a root cause to one's "IBS". And SIBO is a primary culprit.

If you haven't listened to it yet, please click the below Apple podcast link to hear my discussion with Dr. Michael Ruscio on SIBO, Hydrogen Sulfide SIBO, SIFO, and other topics that patients deal with every single day, but without the proper diagnosis.

Tired of being told that it's "just IBS"? Feel free to visit www.juniperfamilyhealth.com and www.sibodoctors.com to learn more about finding the root cause.

Did you know that the most common way to develop Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), a leading root cause of IBS, is from just 1 case of food poisoning/traveler's diarrhea (bacterial gastroenteritis)?

Numerous studies, including a large meta-analysis published by the Mayo Clinic, shows that 1 in 9 people will develop an autoimmune cross reaction during food poisoning/traveler's diarrhea that leads to long term damage of our migrating motor complex (MMC). This weakening of the MMC function then significantly reduces our ability to prevent bacterial overgrowth of the small intestines. SIBO then typically develops 3 to 12 months after the food poisoning/traveler's diarrhea.

SIBO causes excessive bacterial fermentation of fibres, oligosaccharides, sugars, and sugar alcohols found in our food. These fall into the category of FODMAPs. Abdominal bloating, abdominal pains, excessive gas, heartburn, diarrhea and/or constipation, plus even more symptoms occur because of this excessive bacterial fermentation of these FODMAPs.

SIBO is the end result of something very wrong occurring. It's this end result that needs to be diagnosed and treated first. Working on repairing what went wrong comes next. These are two primary focuses in my practice at Juniper Family Health.

Visit https://sibodiagnostics.com/ibs-smart-blood-test/ to watch a short video of me explaining the below flow chart that explains how food poisoning/traveler's diarrhea can potentially lead to SIBO, which then can lead to IBS symptoms.
