It can be hugely beneficial to work towards making every day have meaning.

Some main areas people have found meaning through are:
- Socializaiton; social connection & a sense of belonging
- Materialism; connection to pets, possessions, & professional/financial success
- Transcendent; the temporality of life, justic/ethics, & religion/spirituality
- Being here; your uniqueness, connection to the world, & freedom
- Self growth; resilience, self-insight, creative expression, & reaching goals

Setting S.M.A.R.T. (Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Time-based) goals can help us look towards the future with meaning.

When moving towards goals appreciate and celebrate each gradual step.

Following a challenge identify any learning/skills that were developed. This can be helpful for building and following future goals.

Meeting your own needs makes a huge difference to building resilience.

It can be beneficial to do something enjoyable daily. This makes some feel guilty, but it can be the opposite of selfish.

Creating healthy habits can also make a positive difference. Some examples are: - regular physical activity
- getting plenty of sleep
- building bedtime rituals
- maintaining a healthy diet
- and finding new ways to relax (such as yoga, meditation, guided imagery, deep breathing, or prayer)

Don't ignore your problems, focus on an active approach and make a plan.

Developing confidence in your ability to problem solve can be a huge step towards building resilience. As you progress, recognize your strengths and resourcefulness.

Resilience isn't made in a vacuum! Connecting with others gives us strength.

Volunteering or joining a faith/spiritual group can help reclaim hope, build social supports, and offer a sense of purpose.

Making a positive difference can help create a sense of purpose, increase your self-worth, and empower you.

Different cultures are able to help people cope through ceremonies, teachings, and other cultural practices.

Getting help when we need it is crucial. Remember you are not alone on your journey!

Self-harm is not always a su***de attempt but it can have life threatening consequences.

Isolation is a major contributor to self-injurious behaviours. Hospitalizations for self-harm are 6.5 times higher in remote areas compared to cities.

But self-harm is treatable. Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) was designed to help people who self-harm. It teaches coping skills that can be used to deal with painful emotions.

Bullying is still a huge problem in BC. Don't be a bystander. Do your part and stand up for those affected.

Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 when a group of Nova Scotia teens wore pink to support a grade 9 boy who was bullied for wearing pink. Pink Shirt Day is now observed in more than 110 countries around the world.

50% of children in BC are affected by bullying. Bullying results in higher levels of depression and lower self-esteem as adults, long after the bullying stops.

Resilience is the extent to which we can bounce back from adverse events, cope with stress, or succeed in the face of adversity.

A way to think about resilience is:
How do you match what you need with the kinds of tools that you have?

Stressful situations cannot always be avoided or changed, so we need to learn to cope.

Resilience won't make our problems go away, but it can help us see past them, find ways to enjoy life, and handle stress better.

Check back on Sundays for new tips on how to build resilience!
