🧠✨ Proactive Strategies✨🧠

When we think ahead, we can reduce anxiety, and set kids up for success! 🙌
Here are a few proactive strategies that can make a big difference in daily routines for autistic children:

👀 Visual Supports – Schedules, choice boards, and timers help children know what to expect and what’s expected from them.

⏳ Predictability & Routines – Consistent routines give a sense of safety. Transitions are smoother when kids know what’s coming next.

🧸 Sensory-Friendly Spaces – Create calm areas where kids can self-regulate. Think cozy corners, noise-canceling headphones, or fidget tools.

💬 Clear Communication – Use short, concrete language or visual cues. Give time to process before expecting a response.

🤝 Teach Before the Storm – Practice skills (like asking for a break) when the child is calm. Don’t wait for a crisis to teach coping strategies.

❤️ Connection First – Build trust and connection through play and presence. Kids learn best when they feel safe and understood.

✨ Small changes. Big impact. Be proactive, not reactive!

National Red Dress Day 2025 — Canada

Today, we honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S).

The red dress has become a powerful symbol of remembrance, resistance, and a call for justice. On this day, we wear red, we speak their names, and we commit to listening, learning, and taking action to end the violence.

Let us stand together in solidarity with Indigenous communities—because every life matters, and every voice deserves to be heard.

Feeding and Autism: Understanding the Connection 🍽️💙

For many individuals with autism, mealtime can be a challenging experience. Sensory sensitivities, limited food preferences, and difficulties with communication can all play a role in how children with autism engage with food. Feeding struggles are common, with some children experiencing food aversions or a narrow range of foods they feel comfortable eating.

It's important to approach these challenges with patience, empathy, and creativity. Parents, caregivers, and professionals can work together to support positive eating experiences by introducing new foods slowly, creating a calm and consistent mealtime routine, and considering sensory needs.

Remember, every child is unique, and progress might take time. The goal is to help create a supportive environment where children feel empowered to explore different foods, building both their nutritional and sensory skills, while reducing stress and anxiety around mealtimes.

If you're navigating the complexities of feeding and autism, know that you're not alone. With the right support, children can develop healthier relationships with food, paving the way for better overall well-being. 💙✨
