🗞️ I·SPARC and National Indigenous Diabetes Association Unveil “Nashmene” Colouring Book in Recognition of World Diabetes Day.
In recognition of World Diabetes Day, I·SPARC and the National Indigenous Diabetes Association (NIDA) are proud to announce the release of Nashmene, a new Indigenous-inspired colouring book celebrating healthy living through traditional foods, activities, and sport. 🖍
The word Nashmene means “go for it!” in the St’at’imcets language, gifted by Elder Gerry Oleman. The book encourages communities to connect with Indigenous knowledge and cultural practices found throughout British Columbia that support active, balanced lifestyles — from berry picking and cedar weaving to moose hunting, canoeing, and lacrosse.
A playful touch runs through every page: a hidden coyote illustration invites readers to look closely and engage with each scene.

I·SPARC’s Healthy Living unites community champions who are passionate about health and wellness, and empowers individuals to become more active and make healthier lifestyle choices.
Getting involved with I·SPARC Healthy Living all starts with leader training. Offered both regionally and provincially, our leader training equips individuals with the knowledge, tools and resources to design, plan and deliver healthy living programs in their communities. The four programs offered through I·SPARC Healthy Living are: the Indigenous RunWalk, the Honour Your Health Challenge, FitNation, & HealthBeat.
Indigenous RunWalk: an 8-21 week program designed to prepare participants for a 5 or 10K community run/walk event
Honour Your Health Challenge: a 6-week program that encourages innovation in promoting healthy, active lifestyles. Past programs include traditional cooking, jigging, weekly hike clubs, medicinal plan harvesting, canoe pulling and so much more!
FitNation: an 8-week program that incorporates more than 100 dynamic exercises that can be adapted to any fitness level.
HealthBeat: a complementary program to the ARW, HYHC, and FitNation, offering health screening to participants before and after their physical activity focused program.
Individuals who complete our leader training are eligible for a grant up to $1000 to support the delivery of their healthy living program.
To date I·SPARC Healthy Living has trained over 2200 Healthy Living Leaders, delivering over 1500 community programs, reaching over 53,000 participants across the province. Join movement!!
